| Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) Sid Meier and 2K Games today announced a new Civilization spin-off for the the 'next gen' consoles.
Titled Civilization Revolution, it will be the first time that the Civilization series has graced consoles since Civ II was ported to the PlayStation back in 1996. The exact systems which the game will be released on are yet to be confirmed, but Sid Meier mentioned that it would be available for both handheld and full size systems.
The game will follow a similar pattern to it's PC-based predecessors, with the player guiding a race from the beginnings of civilization to man's first voyage to Alpha Centauri. There will be 16 playable races with a selection of real world historical leaders and online multiplayer modes. The timescale of the game has been smoothed out, to allow for a faster paced game with more action then it's PC based counterpart. From the artwork (below) it appears that unit design has a more exaggerated style then units in other recent Civ games, and new items called Relics have been added to the game.
Civilization Revolution is scheduled for a Spring 2008 release, while the second expansion pack for Civilization VI, Beyond the Sword, is due out next month.

| Re: Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) Looks pretty good. Im sure it will be on the ps3 given sid meier's comments not that long ago.
Im not convinced that civ controls work properly on a console, but time will tell.

| Re: Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) A trailer for your enjoyment: Link.
No gameplay unfortunately, but it seems to emphasis combat more then the trailers for Civ IV did. Also, at the end of it, the splash screen shows the PS3 and Xbox Live logos, so it could be that Wii won't be getting a slice of the Civ cake.

| Re: Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) It's Civilisation. It's Sid Meier. I don't need to hear more than that to be interested.

| Re: Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) Been trying the demo of this on Xbox 360.
It's a horrific dumbing down of the Civ Series. I could play it with my eyes closed.
Pretty disappointed.

| Re: Civilization Revolution (Various Consoles) Do you reckon its been dumbed down because of control system issues or because generally games developers think console owners aren't as clever as flight sim playing PC hacks?

Absolute classic of a game. | That's been available as abandonware for years

Oh and I didn't exactly have to pay for Alien Crossfire... So it's all good! btw Addy: Icarus > Helios > Daedalus. You know Icarus is just cool as fuck.

The controls aren't intuitive, there are too many pop-ups, the entire UI design is much more cartoony then any of the main Civ series, and there are a lot of backwards steps from Civ IV.
Christ, there are a good few backwards steps from Civ II.

Christ, there are a good few backwards steps from Civ II. | Mind following up one of the all-time greatest games, with a game designed to appeal to a wider mass market is never going to fly particularly. The developers will usually remove all the bits that made people love them so much in the first place to simplify it.
Look at Deus Ex's sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War. Sadly very nearly killed to franchise due to it being shit. Though a new Deus Ex 3 is in development, but by different developers so may or may not be good.

Christ, there are a good few backwards steps from Civ II. | I have my suspicions that the DS version will try to rival Advance Wars. Could work, but it's a high bar to go for to be sure
