E3 '07 - Xbox Live Video Marketplace and Xbox Elite Come to Europe Microsoft executive, Peter Moore (of GTAIV and Halo 3 tattoo fame) today announced that Europe would be seeing the Xbox Live Video Marketplace and the Xbox Elite in the near future.
Active in the United States since November of 2006, XBL Video Marketplace allows Xbox Live members to download HD and standard definition movies and TV shows. The system uses Microsoft Points, the same as the current Marketplace.
Shows currently available in the US include Star Trek, CSI, Lost and many others. TV shows are downloaded to the Xbox 360's harddisk permanently (unless deleted), while movies are 'rented' and must be watched within 14 days of download.
The service is slated to launch sometime during Autumn 2007.
To accompany the increased downloadable content, Microsoft is also launching the Xbox 360 Elite, which features HDMI output and a larger hard-disk then the Core and Standard models of the system. It also features a stylish black paint-job and black accessories.
The console will be available in Europe from the 24th of August.
For those who do not wish to upgrade their entire console, but wish to store more on their 360, a 120GB hard-disk will also go on sale. This includes a transfer cable so you can move data currently stored on a 20GB Xbox hard-disk to a 120GB modle.
