| Good / Bad in 2007 [Merged With GOTY '07] Post up your favourite games/gaming moments in 2007 and your worst, feel free to add as many as you want: BEST Call of Duty 4 - Out of leftfield a bit considering how average COD3 was this turned out to be my game of the year. The new modern setting and a return to the development of the game by Infinity Ward saw this beat off MOH: Airborne and I reckon it's even better than BioShock and Halo 3. The single player is excellent but it really comes into its own on the multiplayer - a level up system not really seen on consoles with so many rewards for persistent play. The best thing about the online aspect is that if you've only got 10-15 minutes to spare you can have a game without having to free up hours for a game.
The bad news is that the word is the next update to it won't be handled by Infinity Ward and it may return to a WWII setting WORST The 'moral' choice options in Bioshock - Bioshock was an amazing game, only let down by there being no multiplayer but the biggest disappointment for me with the game is that the newly hailed 'moral choices' that you'd supposedly make to shape the rest of the game weren't really choices and they didn't really shape the game. Natural instinct would be to save the kids and in the end up it didn't really matter as the rewards for saving them outweighed any option to not save them. It should've been implemented much better. WORST Pokemon Diamond - I'd never played a Pokemon game but after reading reviews and what folk were saying about it on here I thought I'd give it a bash. I shouldn't have bothered, it's fucking shite. WORST Final Fantasy III - Great game but no save option in the dungeons is nonsensical. To spend 1-2 hours in a dungeon and then dying AND then be expected to repeat it over again made me put the game down before I even got a third of the way through it. |

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Best CoD4 - Having not played the game it's probably a bit strange i've picked it. But i've had so much of JR and other guys in my work doing my nutt in that it's amazing. That i'm gonna upgrade my pc pretty much PURELY to play this. Seems like a fantastic game online. WoW - Why? Cause it is! Worst Brunswick Bowling on Wii - Seems like they tried to cash in on the success of Wii Sports by releasing a exclusive bowling game giving customers the impression that it must be better than the wii sports mini-game as that is their primary focus. Well, it's not...it's absolutly terrible. The controls are awkward, the lane seems tiny. It just feels awful to play the game thus me hating it and trading it in the next day Table Tenis on Wii - Same reason as above, awkward controls. Although it got a much better review than Brunswick, the reason the Wii Sports games are good is because they are simple. Table Tennis lost out pretty quickly on that front.
That's my fairly limited selection...i play WoW too much... |

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Good: Assassin's Creed - Gets a bit repetitive, but just look at it. Eye orgasms. CoD4 - The on-line side of this game alone gets it into my top-5.
Halo 3 - Far, far too short on game play - much like CoD4 - but I loved it. Portal - One of the most ingenious and original games I've played.
Pro Evo 2008 - First time I've ever picked up this game rather than FIFA. Needless to say I love it and will not be buying a FIFA game again. |

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 AWESOME:
Super Mario Galaxy
Paper Mario and Actraiser on the Virtual Console
I haven't really played many other games this year. Zelda was pretty good, but I just couldn't find the time to sit down and play it, and Mario Strikers Charged Football was fun at first but it's just not quite balanced right and gets pretty repetitive after the first few games.
Obviously I only have a Wii, and that's all I'm really interested in at the moment, to be honest. I dunno much about the slew of other "big games" this year, especially on the 360 and PS3, I think the gaming industry is still just pulling itself out of a dull patch. I like fun, colourful, original games. I don't really dig football games or FPS games that run entirely on a pallette consisting of various shades of brown, green and grey. |

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Best The Darkness - Far from being without flaws, but the closest I've seen to being a convincing interactive movie. The drill in the face bit inspires quite genuine panic in the player. Assassins Creed - Probably wins on the originality of the concept alone. Any other games where you can cut about 11th Century Jerusalem Punch-daggering people in the eye? Don't think so. Free-running engine also never gets old. The end of the game will make you punch yourself mind. God Of War 1 & 2 - Just got round to these, beatiful graphics and a highly entertaining slice-em-up set in a fantastically insane Greek tragedy. The Orange Box - Admittedly the PS3 version can't compete with the continuous stream of beautiful re-skinnings of the game on the PC but the game is more than manic enough with the original graphics. Making the headcrabs actually vaguely threatening totally threw me. Exact same for episode 1 & 2. Portal is the puzzle game of the year. Team Fortress 2... Haven't bothered with it yet, they gave me too many awesome games on one disc. Worst Oblivion - Is still for hobbit-loving Tolkien fans, no matter how demonic and edgy they try and make it. Seriously, I know trees are easier to render than inhabited skyscrapers but why don't we have a decent science fiction next-gen RPG? Bioshock - Really clunky FPS on a system that has more than enough already. Either you dig the game concept and ignore its flaws, or you don't. Hmm, actually quite similar to the Darkness in that respect. Halo 3 - Over-rated Starship Troopers rip-off. Also loses points for having a protagonist called Master Chef. Super Mario Galaxy - Because I don't own a wii. |

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Good: Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4 Wii version (may be 2006, only got it a month ago so it's going in), FFXII and Portal.
Bad: Pro Evo 2008 was a total disappointment. Can't really think of any other bad games i've played this year.

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Good World Of Warcraft Maybe not 'new' this year, but it was new to me and took up the better part of the first half of this year for my flatmates and I. I guess the Burning Crusade element was new, but I was overly impressed with that. Guitar Hero Took up the second half of my year, and really proved itself to be the party game of choice. Many an drunken night spent hammering away (badly) on the songs of choice. Worst The Simpsons Game Aside from a mildly amusing plot it has to be one of the worst games I've ever made my flatmates spend money on. Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 Seriously, they should have stopped at the third one. Total gash. |

And I disagree on Oblivion, it's a great game. Flawed in places and they dropped too many of Morrowind's features to make it more 'stream lined', but the modding community has made huge strides in putting that right. A well modded Oblivion install is an amazing gaming experience.

| Re: Good / Bad in 2007 Still in two minds about Mass Effect, I'd need to have a decent crack at it to judge.
As impressive as much of the game dynamics in Oblivion are, the whole style of the game is as offputting to me as home-made forumer porn. |

COD4 - This gets the series back on track after the disappointment that was COD3. On my third play through of this game and can't get enough. It is a bit short on the single player campaign but the multi-player on live makes up for it.
PES2008 - Although there have been well documented lag issues online this game is fantastic. Not the best installment in the series but still has loads of replay value online. Single player is very dull even on the hardest setting but the game is saved with it's online mode.
The Orange Box - 5 cracking games for the price of one, need I say more. Worst
Assassins Creed - Not the worst per say but very repetitive and has no replay value in my opinion.
Kayne and Lynch - Looked like this was going to be a cracker until it was released. Very poor single player with a half decent multi-player.
The Darkness (multi-player) - Why did they even bother. |

COD4 - Nuff said
Orange Box - Same
Mass Effect - Not as good as KOTOR but worth the 60 hours I invested in it
SWOS on Live Arcade (finally)
Wii Virtual Arcade Bad
COD4 coming out right after Orange Box - None of my friends play TF2 anymore
Heavenly Sword - Mediocre attempt to outdo God of War/Ninja Gaiden/DMC
Guitar Hero Rocks the 80's - Shallow song list and lack of challenge compared to GH2 & 3 ruined this
Bioshock - Enjoyed it but not a patch on System Shock 2
Waking up and finding Posh in your bed playing Shadowrun

my only grievance with it would be the main storylines far too easy to complete then you get a bit bored of mini-quests at about 60+ hours |
