Gaming News LOTRO Expanion: The Mines of Moria

Turbine Inc and Codemaster's Games recently announced the first full expansion to the successful Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) MMO.

Set in the world of Middle Earth, and drawing on lore established by Tolkien's Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Hobbit as well as the revisions added by Peter Jackson in his movie trilogy, LOTRO allows players to undertake quests to help the Fellowship of the Ring and the various races of Middle Earth defeat the forces of evil.
Thus far, adventurers have only been able to access the areas of Middle Earth north of the Mines of Moria. With the expansion, the Mines themselves will become available, as will a large expanse of playable area to the south of the mines.

Turbine will also continue to issue their regular content expansions (known as Books). In addition to the 12 Books already available and the further two which are due to launch prior to the Moria, Mines of Moria will add another 6 with more being released regularly following launch.

Other then the new lore content, adventures can also expect two new classes - the Rune-Keeper and the Warden; a level cap raise from 50 to 60 and the addition of Legendary weapons, which can level along with the player.

More details can be found on the viral marketing site Unlock The Mines of Moria. Codemasters have also recently opened a seven day trial scheme, which can be found here.

Re: LOTRO Expanion: The Mines of Moria

Some concept art from Moria:

The Bridge where Gandalf fought the Balrog

The door to Balin's Tomb

The Entrance to the Mines

An Ice Giant

I also added the logo to the first post. It looks more then a little similar to the WoW: Wrath of the Lich King logo.

Are you still playing it?

I've been having a go on the trial and have to say that it still feels like it's missing something, but it's hard to say what.
It was good to see that the servers were quite busy though. I'd guess that the LOTRO population is larger then the SWG one by a long margin. All the English based SWG servers were dead last time I tried it.

Re: LOTRO Expanion: The Mines of Moria

I gave up on SWG just before the change they did and never went back.

Personally I find LOTRO alot better than WoW. It's the same basic structure but I've never really felt like I'm grinding and I enjoy the fact you notice things fromt he books etc. Great wee game but could do with more people I know playing it.

Still I've not played that much recently due to time.
