| Spore
With the September 7th release date confirmed, EA are ramping up their PR machine to big up Spore.
I've uploaded a shedload of images that they've released to a gallery here. Not many images of the Civ or Space Phases yet, but plenty of the revamped Cell Phase, the Creature Phase and the Tribe Phase. There are also a few shots of the UI. Cell Phase Quote: |
Cell Phase is your introduction to the fundamentals of Spore. You play a simple organism which is dropped onto your planet by way of meteor. The stage takes place in a top-down 2-D environment and you can play as an herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore. You earn DNA and collect parts to improve your creature’s abilities. Make your choices wisely - even as a lowly simple organism, your choices and actions will have long lasting effects. Avoid larger, carnivorous organisms while feeding on smaller organisms or algae – all while being tossed around in strong ocean currents. Eventually you will grow large enough to sprout legs and crawl out of the water and up onto land.
| Creature Phase Quote: |
You begin Creature Stage as a simple organism which has just sprouted legs and wandered onto land for the first time. This stage takes place on a 3-D world filled with lush plant life and life forms of all shapes and sizes. Gather DNA points as you interact with other creatures either socially or aggressively. Collect new parts, then use the Creature Creator to spend your DNA and expand your creature’s abilities. Discover countless new species as you explore your strange new world, all of them created by other players. Depending on how you played Cell Stage, your creature will begin Creature Stage with one of three super powers at its disposal. It’s a race of the species to become the first sentient creature on your planet!
| Tribal Phase Quote: |
You begin the Tribal Stage as a small group of sentient creatures which have just discovered tools and have formed the first tribe on their planet. Gather food with your tribe members by picking fruit, hunting or domesticating wild animals and fishing. Your tribe runs on food buy tools with it, purchase tribal accessories with it, gift it to other tribes, steal it from other tribes, and (of course) feed your tribe with it. Use different tools to befriend or attack neighboring tribes, aid in hunting and gatherting, or heal your tribe members. Depending on how you played the Cell and Creature Stages, you will begin Tribal Stage with two of six super poswers at your disposal. Defeat of ally with five trives to conquer the continent and form civilization!
| Civ Phase
A demo of Spore's creature creator tool is due to be released on the 17th of June.

I've heard rumors that the minimum requirements are 2Ghz P4 and a Pixel Shader 2 compatible graphics card.

According to the Spore website, the Wii version is in very early development.

| Re: Spore This looks like a real sandbox of a game which means I'm unlikely to ever get tired of it. I also think it's great that the movement of your organisms is governed by an intuitive program that works it out there and then when your creature first tries to move. |

| Re: Spore GayGamer has an article up about a press event in the states, where EA Maxis showed off the creature creator and the new Spore website. It's worth a look. http://gaygamer.net/2008/06/spore_cr...tor_event.html
There are some videos of creatures in the creature creator. The graphics on it don't look too hot. Lets hope it's not a reflection of the final game. Wired also has a gallery of images from the same event.
