| [GEEK MODE]
I'm currently playing the English translation patch version of the SNES game Tales Of Phantasia... FUCKING HELL THIS GAME IS SO GOOD IT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES!! How I went so long without having played this game before is beyond me, it has now officially become my life.
The graphics are so beautiful... Little details like when you walk past some water, the effect of your refelection as you walk past looks amazing. I don't care what anyone says, these kind of images on the SNES were the pinacle of video game graphics... I don't want to see all the dull "real life" graphics of modern games, I want bright cartoon animé characters, and this game gives the best example of this I've ever seen!!
The music is insanely good as well... Your typical SNES RPG kind of music, but some parts have female Japanese vocals over the top of them. Yes, PROPER VOCALS in a SNES game! The characters also have voices at some points, such as battles.
The gameplay is also fantastic. the storyline will keep you intrigued the whole way through, and the battle system is INCREDIBLY unique... Blows the shit out of the turn-based battle systems of the majority of games of its kind. GET THIS GAME!!!! [/GEEK MODE] |

| I got a ROM of ToP ages ago, but I don't think it had been translated by that point. It *looked* excellent, but obviously was a bit unplayable due to all the text. I'll give it a go soon, though.
You're right about SNES graphics, though. I like a lot of 3D games, but the finesse and skill that went into the best 2D games (and still does, ever so rarely) have yet to be matched by 3D graphics. It's not that there's anything inherently wrong with 3D, I don't think, just that it's so much more complicated to create a three-dimensional landscape that no one has really managed to totally master it and create an artistically viable and totally unique aesthetic out of it. Erm... or something.
I'm playing Timesplitters 2 for GC, th' now, as I got it for a tenner second hand at Cash Generators. I've also been playing Heroes of Might + Magic III a wee bit on the PC, but it gets boring sooo fast, and still manages to consume vast quantities of time. Stephen |

| Speaking of translations...
I'm currently immersed in the world of Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker on my GC... and I reckon it's the sweetest translation I've seen so far. The dialogue is actually pretty good, even though it's annoying as hell the way characters keep referring to me by name.
A certain lady in my household has recently learned the addictive lure of Mr Driller for the DC. It hasn't reached the heights of her Tetris habit yet... but the operative word there is yet.
Oh, and I'm slowly making my way through the top-notch conversion of Broken Sword for the GBA. It's been so long since I played it through on PS that I'm actually having to work at some of the puzzles again.

| Someday, I hope to actually finish the 1000m challenge. Mr. Driller is lovely, and I'm terrible at it. Life is seldom fair.

Tch. I have to go and play it now, just for the yellow and green level.

| I've recently rediscovered the joys of Pro Evolution Soccer 2.
And working my way through Vice City. I'm still the king of suck when it comes to games. |
