Arc the Lad 3 | Busy boy . . . now that I'm in the States, I'm gonna try and stock up on the RPGs that never made it to the UK, for those long winter nights . . . Magic Knight Rayearth, Arcus Oddyssey, Lunar, Lunar: Eternal Blue . . . while I'm here, though, all I've got is my GBA, which means Pinball of the Dead, Puyo Pop and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow all the way. All of them class.
I need to catch up on the 16-bit RPGs that are getting converted to the GBA too: Lunar, Ogre Battle, Phantasy Star . . . I just need more money and more time. |

| TKK - I've got a small collection of ROMs that I've burned and got sittin waitin for Engine8 - includes PhantasyStar2 and 3 and an emulator to play em, both Ogre Battles translated, but unfortunately not the Lunar series. *sniffle*
Also the aforementioned Holy Shit Thats Good "Tales of Phantasia"
If ya trip over a copy of Chrono Cross on the cheap, I'll reimburse ya when you get back. Itching badly to play that game these days for some reason.
Ahem, new game on the playlist since I've got more downtime recently - Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn.
Doesn't suffer from my main problems with 1 and Icewind Dale - let's face it, lvl 1 characters in D&D just plain suck. They die. Repeatedly. Frustratingly. Again and again. Just don't have the HP or the gear to go up against your basic goblin let alone the stuff these games start you off against. Never ever had fun with the first 1-4 levels of a D&D character.
BG2 pumps the levels to the 7-9 arena, decent hitpoints, decent weapon skills/magic spells, as well as decreasing some of the need to micromanage things as much in the other games.
Still, I've managed to work myself into a corner.
Random wank - "HAH, YOU'RE CURSED AND WILL DIE A SLOW DEATH" to one of my characters.
Me - fuck it, I'm off to save this castle that's 3-4 days walk away.
--in middle of saving castle, notice that my main healer is getting chomped on fairly fast. --
Hmm, how the heck did her max HP suddenly drop from 70 to 27 and all her stats dwindle by 20-40%? Oh right, curse! *smacks forehead* Off to town to get this thing lifted....and of course she's too weak to fight in battle, the cleric goes down like a prom night virgin, and the rest of the party caves in just as quickly.
Gamefaqs for a quickie cheat, here I come! |

| Re: RPG Central Dave said: "Pinball of the Dead, Puyo Pop"
Yes, there were other words in your post, but these are clearly the most important ones. What Jeff said about Chrono Cross goes double for me and Puyo Pop. If you can find it for a reasonable price I will pay you the money back and bake you a cake. I need portable Puyo.
Interested to see what PotD is like. Gary Lennox got me a copy of Typing of the Dead for the PC. Predictably, my CD drive is knackered the now, but I've been playing it on my flatmates' PCs, and it's fucking ace. It makes you type some really fucked up shit, but it is a very challenging test of your typing skills. Recommended. Stephen |

| Imports If and when I find three copies of Chrono Cross ( one for me, heh ), I'll mail a couple to Steve. I've seen it cheap already, but can't remember where. Most PS1 games are ten-a-penny over here, so I'll keep you posted. The main one I've seen dirt-cheap that I've wanted is Silhouette Mirage. Looking out for Einhander also. Just don't expect to receive anything anytime soon - won't be back in the city for a few weeks, I've still not managed to get a Social Security number, which means I'm still not getting paid.
We've got a PS2 now, with Marvel VS Capcom 2, Parappa 2 and some shitty F1 game that my flatmates love and bores me to tears. MVC2 doesn't seem as smooth or punchy as the DC version, and I miss the arcade sticks. It does have a little more background detail though. Parappa is OK, but it doesn't seem as engaging as Cool Cool Toon or Space Channel 5 Part 2. And the translation and raps are so bad, it's not even funny. Maybe I just need to get into it more.
I really want Contra: Shattered Soldier. Played it in the shop, it seems really cool. There's a game over here called Hack The Mutation that looks cool too, think I might buy it. I miss Rez, so I'm gonna get that when I see it cheap, but I haven't seen it at all so far.
Jeff, did you ever go to Red Bank? It's the closest town to here, and it's actually got some cool shops. Kevin Smith's comic shop, some good record and game shops. |

| I don't think Parappa 2 is translated. I know for a fact that the original Parappa was already in English when they released it in Japan. It did have some fairly... odd rhyming in it, but I think that is just the writing itself. So maybe that's the way Parappa 2 is, as well. Did you like the original? It's colourful, and the tunes are quite good, but it's frustrating that it's simultaneously on-rails and quite simplistic and quite difficult. Vib Ribbon is probably the better game. Stephen |

| Man, Vib-ribbon... I miss that game. The two good things about the PSone - Vib-ribbon and Mr Domino.
I am currently (well, not now - now I'm at work) playing one game and one game only. Mr Driller Ace on the GBA. The Mr Driller series have always been great, but this goes beyond addictive and into the realm of Tetris or Klax. For the first time ever I ran my GBA SP battery down from a full charge in one sitting.

| Currently playing through: The Legend Of Zelda: The Windwaker (GC)
The Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons (GBC)
And once I'm finished Windwaker I'll be having another runthrough of Ocarina Of Time (must be about my 6th time now) and probably set up my SNES for another go of A Link To The Past. Woo! And maybe if I can find the time I'll play through Majora's Mask once more...
