| Re: Help to Trace a game Does sound like 7th guest, the first ever game on CD-ROM.
Spent ages playing that, has to be one of the most frustrating games ever made.
Who remembers "SHY GYPSY SLYLY SPRYLY TRYST BY MY CRYPT"? |

| Re: Help to Trace a game heh, I never actually play games anyway, except on my PS2, for which I tend to pick them up from shops
I use my PCs for serious stuff, like, er, AN, and watching films. |

And it wasn't a torrent thing i was suggesting, it's bassicly abandonware, which i know is still on dubious shakey ground, but would have done if she couldnt find it.

| Re: Help to Trace a game The company that made 7th Guest might be out of business and the folks that hold the rights to the game trundling around someplace in nowhereland, but some companies still protect their "abandonware" and ROM rights, like LucasArts Entertainment and their many excellent SCUMM VM games.
Safe than sorry in this cruddy day and age.. What a shame noone can monitor yer PMs to see you sending folks info where to get such abandoned warez. |

Who remembers "SHY GYPSY SLYLY SPRYLY TRYST BY MY CRYPT"? | I thought that was a wrong statement.
7th guest was *not* the first game on CD-ROM, but it was in the first 5 or 6 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Manhole
The Manhole, by Cyan, was the first. It was released in 1988 compared to 7th Guest's release in 1993. Cyan then went on to make Myst, also released in 93. |

| Re: Help to Trace a game Interesting. Never knew about Manhole since it was out on the Mac only.
7th Guest was definitely the first PC game released on CD only. Everyone was buying CD-ROM drives just to play it and they used to bundle it with new Mitsumi X1 speed drives. It was actually cheaper to buy the game than copy it, 'cause the only CD recorder available was £5K, blank CD's were £50 each and 7th guest was on 2 CD's! |
