| Re: Ps3 controller? Chris Morris, a CNNMoney.com reporter, announced that a redesigned PS3 controller is to be unveiled at E3 Expo 2006 in May. The above concept - named “Ball Controller” - was designed by Adam Portilla.
“The controller might have turned out to be the most comfortable ever released, but the world will never know because gamer reaction to the design of the thing was nearly unanimously negative after its unveiling at E3 in May 2005.”

| Re: Ps3 controller? That sketch strikes me as 'weird for the sake of weird'. Why couldnt they just stick a wireless unit into a ps2 pad? Would anyone have complained?

Looks like the PS3 controller that we have all come to love so much (Yeah right) has been scrapped. The controller so often referred to as the 'Boomerang' is being scrapped in favor of a more sleek design according to some sources. The controller wasn't recieved too well by its own fan base, which has prompted sony to take a fresh look into the situation to see if they can come up with a better design which would be benificial to all, and just plain liked more by its core fans....
Again, details on the expected new design are under lock and key. They'll have to do a pretty good job on the design I'd expect as there have been many a concept design created by sonys fanbase which would be worthy of mass production themselves.
| Thank christ, hopefully a non-shite controller will emerge. |

| Re: Ps3 controller? i noticed that on engadget the other day, with a note below it saying it wasnt the new design.
also there was news that part of the decision to redesign the controller was based on the fact that sony recently lost the case brought against it by Immersion Corp. They patented force-feedback devices in consoles (Microsoft and Nintendo already settled out of court with them). however sony fought and lost. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...php?story=4793
they now have to pay royalties every time a ps2 is sold from now on. (They were ordered by the courts to halt all sales of any products using force-feedback / vibration feedback technology. This means the ps2 is currently not being sold).
The redesign also has a lot (perhaps more) to do with the almost universal negative feedback for the first design.
As a side note, nintendo has always claimed they invented rumble technology and sony ripped them off, but they decided just to pay immersion rather than fight.
EDIT: found the page i was talking about at engadget.
Also in other news:
The PS3 will be REGION FREE. this link is a good one: three stories from it:
The PSP will be getting a playstation emulator will access to ALL of the psx back catalogue.
The PSOne will be dropped (see story above about controller)
The psp will be getting a price drop.
