| Re: The X-Box 360 Games Thread (Moaning, Chatter, Hype & Release Dates) Post-E3 and I'm happy with the future of my 360. Hell yes, I am.
Some more info on APB. Quote:
Anyone who's played one of the recent Grand Theft Auto games has probably made the following observation: "This would be completely sick online!" It's thus appropriate that none other than Dave Jones -- one of the series' creators, and current head of studio Realtime Worlds -- is spearheading the effort to bring a game of that style online. It's called APB, and from the sounds of it, it incorporates into its design all the features you would imagine a GTA-style online game would need, not to mention a few you probably haven't thought of.
The basic dynamic driving APB (as in "all points bulletin") is cops versus gangsters. Players will choose one of these basic roles, and do what's logically associated with them: commit crimes as a gangster, and prevent them as a cop. It's not quite that simple, though. Groups of players will be able to band together, regardless of which side of the law they fall under, with criminals forming into gangs, and cops into "enforcement squads." These organizations will be able to customize pretty much every element you can imagine. Gangsters will be able to customize the graffiti that appears around their territory, specify the style of clothing that their members will wear, even the type of music that plays while they drive around. Meanwhile, enforcement squads can choose from various styles of uniform (one group may want to adopt a clean cut, Federal Agent sensibility, and other might want to go the straight-up camo route), and design their own unique badges and insignias. You'll immediately know when one of your zones is under attack, even if you're offline: you'll get a text message on your phone whenever an important spot is under attack, and if you're not able to log in and defend it personally, you'll be able to log into the game's website, and bolster whomever is holding it down with extra armaments. The funds will be deducted from your gang's coffers, and a screeching van will arrive at the site of the attack, and drop off the munitions. | From GameSpy

| Re: The X-Box 360 Games Thread (Moaning, Chatter, Hype & Release Dates) Well done.
See that APB game up there? Reckon the producers have been smart enough to pick up the license for the original APB arcade game?

| Re: The X-Box 360 Games Thread (Moaning, Chatter, Hype & Release Dates) I loved APB - shame WoW looks set to be PS3 only as they've apparently dropped talks with Microsoft recently. Market share MMO leader pulling out ain't entirely good news.
It should be pointed out that Dave Jones from Real Time Worlds was on the design team for the original GTA (and more importantly, Lemmings!) back in the DMA Design days. Real Time Worlds is based in Dundee and is the largest game developer studio in Scotland (despite never having released any product and only having two games in development)
Their other game is Crackdown for the XBox 360, a sandbox urban warfare game. |

Heh at the original arcade game...maybe they could add it in so we can play it during the load screens. Quote:

Seems like a developer I'll be watching closely since I love their forte. |

| Re: The X-Box 360 Games Thread (Moaning, Chatter, Hype & Release Dates) I've found my reason to never buy another XBox product again though - the Shadowrun fiasco...after destroying the game world with their upcoming FPS (there's a variety of things you can't do in a Shadowrun environment..but there's three major ones. Microsoft has broken two out of three of the major laws of the world because it made their game seem more fun.) - after twisting the existing world of Shadowrun, they sent in corporate shills as new forum members to the boards with the biggest disgruntlement and badly tried to smooth things over.
Most of the Shadowrun community is rolling around in disgust these days. I waited 13 years for another Shadowrun console game and they gave us Unreal Tournament 360. Even the SNES version kicks the pants off this new one. Feh. |

Most of the Shadowrun community is rolling around in disgust these days. I waited 13 years for another Shadowrun console game and they gave us Unreal Tournament 360. Even the SNES version kicks the pants off this new one. Feh. | Your post made me download 2 Shadowrun previews (1 trailer & 1 interview with the devs) available on Marketplace, I've never heard of the games before so I don't know whether your fanboy outrage is in the Greedo Shoots First league or the Metal Gear Acid! league, do let me know. What they showed has potential to be a quirky & refreshing take on the FPS genre. There's new goddamn rules! Teleporting & having the ability to create a hologram when cornered sounds freeking sweet. The gaming style is more Nintendo-like than KILLZONE 2-like so it might be a nice change of surroundings for those of us that soak our TV screens with blood every time we power on our consoles & TBH, I know it seems daft to believe a preview or even what the devs say but they look like they've really tried to create something unique. It sucks when companies use a loved franchise to deal with gaps in the market instead of putting the work in to create something from the ground up but at the end of the day this game could be a good 'un & a few years down the line a loved addition to the Shadowthingy universe. Give it a chance!
Oh, another devs/preview video download for Gears of War has launched it from "no-bad...might buy it" to "wowza!". Most likely to be a killer app then, aye? I bought Rockstar's Table Tennis on Fri but it won't be delivered until Tuesday...cannot wait to play it, a few kids were playing it in Gamestation on Sat and seemed to be having loadsa fun.
My "probably gonnae get it!" list so far= 07/07/06
Resident Evil 5 15/09/06
Dead Rising 29/09/06
Brother’s In Arms - Hells Highway
Splinter Cell - Double Agent
Test Drive Unlimited
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 03/11/06
Gears of War 24/11/06
Call of Duty 3
Crackdown
F.E.A.R.
Madden NFL 2007
Rainbow Six: Vegas 26/01/06
Pro Evolution Soccer 07 30/03/07
Halo 3 19/10/07

| Re: The X-Box 360 Games Thread (Moaning, Chatter, Hype & Release Dates) I understand the thought of fanboy irritation but simply put:
Game created in 1989. 4 generations of rulesets + 40 fictional books.
A few of the core tenets are NO TELEPORTATION. NO RESURRECTION. NO ZOMBIES. In a world of D&D/GURPs/RIFTs this forced people to have to find transport instead of rubbing a magic ring, to respect getting killed because they didn't have a reset button.
So far, the game manages to spit in the series face.
The game got Mech Assaulted, simply put (Mech Assault taking the wonderfully painted world of MechWarrior, the great gameplay, and abandoning it in favour of shilling to the lowest common denominator of people who like to see things go boom)
Make Jeff sad. |
