It occurs to me that many of the newer members may not know some of the handy things you can do to aid your browsing experience on the site, and indeed may never visit
the Site related forum and learn such wonders.
Now, most people here already browse by the
New Posts button up at the top there, which displays all the recently posted in threads since your last visit (if you're inactive for 20 minutes you are logged out and it resets), but DID YOU KNOW you can also access this by holding the ALT key on your keyboard and pressing N.
On a similar note, i suspect may people are unaware that you can exclude certain forums from '
New Posts' by going into
Edit Options in your
User CP and simply highlighting the forums you wish to exclude from the list there (if you hold down your CTRL key, you can add many at once) and saving the changes. ( personally block parenting, wheels, football and some of the hosted band forums.)
If there are forums you tend to visit more than others and would like a handy quick link to them, go to the forum, click the 'forum tools' dropdown at the top right of the threads, and hit 'subscribe to this forum' and it will be added to the 'subscribed forums' dropdown at the top of the screen, handy if you like to visit certain areas often and you don't want to have to bother clicking through subforums to get to it.
another handy trick is the keyboard shortcut for posting.
After you type your reply, you can Hold the ALT button on your keyboard and press 'S' to post your reply, 'P' to preview it before posting {to make sure your links/images/spelling are all in order, also takes you to the advanced post reply allowing you to attach images and the like.
Finally, if you would like to change how many posts you see per page, you can do this also through
Edit Options and select from the drop down either 5,10,15,25,30,40 or an all new option of 50 posts per page, useful if you prefer to read threads with less clicking through pages, lower numbers are good if you have a slow connection and image threads take to long for you.
I hope this has been informative, feel free to post other handy tricks you are aware of here, cheers folks.
From late ron in the thread -

Yes, these conflict with system-defined shortcuts. No, there's no way to alter it.
Ctrl+A (Alt+A for PC users) takes you to the arcade. Normally on a Mac and on UNIX platforms, Ctrl+A is the ‘beginning of line’ shortcut (Ctrl+E is ‘end of line’). |

If you choose any of the 'minimal' skins, you'll be browsing without seeing other peoples sigs or avatars, which is the choosen skin of those skiving from work. Soem forums (such as the twisted forum, hosted band forums etc) have their own set colour schemes that will override your persoanl choice, but only while you're in them, it will revert back to your chosen style once you leave there. |

Similarly, you can just go into the Search page and enter your username in the keywords box as a handy way of seeing if anyone has been talking about you.

If so, it resides on the right hand side of the name of the last person to post in the thread.
There is a 'go to last read post' butto on the left hand side of the thread title also, but it seems to be a little quirky. |
