| Looking for Venue Hire - West End/City Centre Due to a recent refit, the room which Glasgow Uni LGBT normally hold their cheap bars in has refused permission for their annual Pride Launch Night. Consequently, we're looking for a cheap room which we will be allowed to hold our own bar in.
We're happy to deal with arranging the license and cleaning as so on. Ideal capacity is 100 or so, but we could probably go bigger. It would be useful if it was near the University or in the City Centre, but it isn't essential as long it's not too out of the way.
This is a fund raising event which relies on alcohol sales to make profit, so it can't be held in a bar or club.
If anyone knows anywhere where we could hire for this, then please get in touch ASAP. We'll be unbelievably grateful and you will be invited to the event. Cheers.

| Re: Looking for Venue Hire - West End/City Centre have you dealt with getting a license before, or has anyone involved with the LGBT? ie, what type of did you apply for? just wondering as i'm thinking about places to suggest.
also, do you take the whole of the bar, or could you consider booking a place where you could take a cut? (obv this depends on prices etc)

(obv this depends on prices etc) | GULGBT has been holding two bar nights a year for the past four or five years, always in the John Mac Building. They normally get an Occasional Permission lisence which just covers a venue for one night.
Ideally, they are looking to operate their own bar, but they are willing to go for a cut as a last resort.
(I can't decide whether to use their or we, since I'm not involved in the actual organisation of it, but I have been asked to lend a hand finding rooms)

There's a phone number for it in the promotions forum, it's on Albion Street, and you do have to get your own license. |

just wondering about the cut - if the prices have been cheap but they've been getting the full profit vs slightly higher prices and a cut.
there was a room i did a play in a few years back in the west quad, between the chapel and the classics dept (that might have moved now though)... dammit can't remember the name. was used for a lecture hall but had as i remember a vaguely similar feel to the main room in the john mac, and a wee vestibule at the back with doors that we used for wings. dammit, this is gonna bug me.

The MacIntyre Room on the Ground Floor has been part of Uni Catering's facilities since the summer and will be a rather crappy cafe for the foreseeable future, while the Williams Room has just has a refit, a tad of restoration work and a new carpet. Unfortunately, it's the only decent sized room that the SRC have to use now and they don't want it wrecked. Quote:

| It wasn't part of the Chaplaincy was it? I think they have to use the horribly overpriced Uni Catering to provide a bar if they want it in the Uni.

| Re: Looking for Venue Hire - West End/City Centre Just to let folks know, GULGBT will be holding their Pride Launch Night in Hillhead Library. No doubt Dil_em_ma will post up the dates and times (and more importantly, the ultra-low prices) in the next few days.
Cheers for the advice anyway.

| Re: Looking for Venue Hire - West End/City Centre Carnival Arts Centre...for the size and design potential of the space you get a lot for your money (and if you tell them its for charity, they might do it cheaper...ask for Teri).
Woodside Social Club...only just outside the city centre, dirt cheap rental and you can discuss the closure of their bar and use your own (its been done before). |

| Re: Looking for Venue Hire - West End/City Centre Cheers for all your advice guys. We'll certainly look into using some of the other places for the next one. We'll be holding this one in Hillhead library on the 14th February. Everyone is welcome. Drinks will be 70p singles and £1.20 doubles (tbc). There may also be a small entry fee, but with drinks prices like that, you can't complain!

In seriousness, GULGBT defiantly has some lookers. Last Launch night I was at was amazing fun though. Everyone gets completely wasted and then heads to Tunnel and just has an amazing time.
It would be nice to meet you as well. Bunny Rach has spoken highly of you
