| Re: Raising money I'm with Fenn, skydiving etc is a bit of an ick fundraiser for this - you want folks to give money to help the conservation programme not to help you be all Xtreme sporty!
Running (half) marathons/10Ks are a cheaper "sponsor me" option. (or as Hammer says, walk/cycle)
One of the best ways I've heard of working for this sort of thing is fundraising nights/parties.
Not easy to organise but hells, £2500 isn't ever easy to raise.
All you need is a venue & music and charge folks for tickets.
Pubs can be cheap and if you explain it's for charity you could prob get free function hire but have their help to promote the night and even help with tickets on the door maybe!
There's some community type halls that can license to resell your own cheap booze bought from Lidl.
Music - there'll be someone in a band you know who will know a starter point for that.
DJs are easier to organise especially these digital days or maybe even get a pro/mobile dj on the cheap.
Do a raffle during the night (sell tickets when they've had a few and don't care the prize is kinda rubbish and just for charity) note: is there legal stuff about raffles? I'd check just in case. |

| Re: Raising money In all seriousness, this doesn't seem like a hard thing to do.
Go out less, save more, make some personal sacrifices and you'll have the money by Xmas.
And lets be honest, the joy of something like this comes from the sacrifices you've made to achieve it, no?

PLUS if i made it back alive i'd have to pay everyone back. flaw in the plan. Quote:

A-NEE-WAY can i just clear up, hopefully for the last time, that i am not expecting other people to fund my jaunt to the jungle, im looking for ideas to raise money in ways that dont involve *having* to sponsor me. blooming heck....

| Re: Raising money I think a fundraising night is the best way to go about it. People get a good night out and you also get the money for your trip. My mums friend did a similar thing a few years ago, and had a fundraising night. She managed raise enough for her trip anyway. She held an auction during the evening and asked local business to donate stuff. She also got a celtic and rangers ball signed by some of the players that sold for quite a bit. Might take a bit of organising but its worth it for the money you will raise. |

| Re: Raising money we were invited to go play in Singapore on tour in the orchestra i was in when I was 16 and we raised our plane fares ourselves (the folk inviting us arranged accomodation in a hostel for us all)
we had jumble sales, a quiz night, held a fundraising concert (all of which probably wont be an option for you if its just you yourself) - but we also did a sponsored cycle between us all. We hired out a hall and exercise bikes for a day and night and between us all we were constantly cycling the whole time, and clocked up enough miles to singapore. It was great fun and good because you werent limited by weather and suchlike as you might be with a run or a sky dive. the best part of the sponsored cycle by far though was going to my pals next door neighbours house door to door asking for sponsors. We knocked on the front door and after getting no reply, we started walking back down the driveway when the garage door opens and out walks Lorenzo Amoruso in his dressing gown, cos he couldnt find his front door keys!! haha - yasss
anyhoos, the sponsored cycle, the concert and quiz were by far the most lucrative of all of the events.
I'm in the process of trying to help my friends raise £5000 for Marie Curie by September in memory of our friend who died earlier this year - and it's hard work thinking of new/decent fundrasing ideas!
good luck!

I don't know if you currently work, but it's not a huge amount of money to save up quickly if you put in the hours and minimise spending. |

pure shite so it is
i took in over £150k in January too
but aye, generally call centre work is bonus driven so if you have a knack for it you could probably accelerate the rate of generating your savings

| Re: Raising money I don't see how? You still live with your parents after all, explain the digs situation to them.
I don't live at home anymore and could save up that amount in a few months if I was determined. |
