Thumbs down WTF? T-shirts with guns on are a security risk?

Quote:
A man wearing a T-shirt depicting a cartoon character holding a gun was stopped from boarding a flight by the security at Heathrow's Terminal 5.

Brad Jayakody, from Bayswater, central London, said he was "stumped" at the objection to his Transformers T-shirt.

Mr Jayakody said he had to change before boarding as security officers objected to the gun, held by the cartoon character. [...Click for more]

I could have understood this happening if someone tried to board a plane with one of those daft gangsta-wannabe shirts with a pistol printed to look like a real one stuck in your waistband...

But for fuck's sake...

They do operate a policy where they will ask people to remove offensive clothing or clothing which could cause unease amongst other passengers (pictures of bombs, plane crashes or whatnot), but, aye, this does seem like stretching that policy a little too far.

Also, I wonder if his dermatological hue swayed any decision.

Re: WTF? T-shirts with guns on are a security risk?

Considering I'm sitting in Afghanistan right now, with plenty of civilians, local and foreign, dotted around wearing a very similar t-shirt (Soundwave from Transformers, likewise with a gun) I find this so far beyond ridiculous I don't even know what that word is. Ridiculi, ridiculous multiple times. Or is that singular? Ridiculi!

Like I said, I could understand it if it was a realistic gun that could be mistaken for a real gun at a distance, or one of those "hilarious" suicide bomber T-shirts... Or even an evil Transformer!
But it's Optimus fucking Prime!

i also liked the bit, after he changed into a plain shirt he was told "if you put that back on you'll be arrested". sir you're being arrested for... errr.... threatning use of cotton.

Re: WTF? T-shirts with guns on are a security risk?

I can understand if it was actually an offensive shirt, or at the very least a picture of a real person holding a gun, but that is just a total fucking pisstake.

Re: WTF? T-shirts with guns on are a security risk?

If I seen a grown man wearing a Transformers t-shirt I'd assume he's got a mental health issue and wouldn't want him anywhere near my plane.

Re: WTF? T-shirts with guns on are a security risk?

I read about this on Gizmodo yesterday. It was originally a Sun story.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's all a load of bullcrap to get £200 out of Murdoch's pocket.
