Well have a look into what savings accounts the bank of scotland do. Might be able to find on their website and stuff. I'm sure if they are anything like LTSB then they can open you one up over the phone that day, no forms ect. We do it for customers and they can open it with a a pound +.
I know this is about overdrafts but a wee bit of advice, make sure you find out what the interest on a saver is net after tax. They are always advertised as gross and normally at the highest rate you can get. Most savings have tiers of interest depending how much you have in the account. The rate of inflation is now at 3.3% so as long as you are making above that on your savings you are making money for yourself.
Bit of a rant but i would hate people being on a crappy savings and losing out on free monies.
