Aye, I've never applied for an overdraft / credit card cos I just don't trust myself. I set aside some cash for a savings account a few months back, but cos the bank are dragging their heels a bit with getting it open, the sum's gradually decreasing.

My normal one's Bank of Scotland but it was Alliance and Leicester I tried to open a savings account with. They sent me a letter asking me to forward them some photocopies of ID (which I did) but they've never got back to me.

Re: Overdraft question

I only ever had one for £100 which I consistently kept going over and eventually cancelled. They refused to give me it back a few months later, but I'm managing alright without it now.

Well have a look into what savings accounts the bank of scotland do. Might be able to find on their website and stuff. I'm sure if they are anything like LTSB then they can open you one up over the phone that day, no forms ect. We do it for customers and they can open it with a a pound +.

I know this is about overdrafts but a wee bit of advice, make sure you find out what the interest on a saver is net after tax. They are always advertised as gross and normally at the highest rate you can get. Most savings have tiers of interest depending how much you have in the account. The rate of inflation is now at 3.3% so as long as you are making above that on your savings you are making money for yourself.

Bit of a rant but i would hate people being on a crappy savings and losing out on free monies.

Re: Overdraft question

Cheers, never really thought of just sticking with BOS. I think I'll do that actually, I can't really be bothered of going through the rigmarole of another load of online forms.

Fucksake, just checked and they offer eight different types of savings accounts. Eek.

Watch they aren't approving impromptu overdrafts for you on the sly for that way lies debt.
