| People who live on their own For those who live by themselves (especially those in a one bedroom flat) - how much do you pay for gas/electricity a month, roughly?
Just trying to figure out if I can afford a place on my own.
Credit crunch and that~! |

| Re: People who live on their own I've only moved into my flat so not got an idea yet, but set up a monthly payment of £39 (just for electric, not got gas here) to start with to see if that'll cover it, and then change it after a few months. That was the estimate given from scottish power so shall wait and see. Quote:

Living on your own is definatly the best option out, but it's so damn expensive, especially when renting somewhere decent that isn't a box with a bed, toilet and cooker in. |

| Re: People who live on their own i know this sounds stupid but are you the type of person that has a stereo, the tv, your computer all going at once. are you going to have a tumble dryer? do you use the washing machine alot? do you leave lights on? do you leave stuff on standby or switch it right off. are you in alot, or out alot?
i stay at home so i dont really know how much i use, but when i am house sitting for my brother or sister i tend to keep everything off and only use what i need. id say i use about a tenner in a week at my sisters.....maybe a little less. theres no gas at ghers, only electric.

| Re: People who live on their own I pay £40 a month, combined gas and power. It's prob only that much because a) I use hunners of gas (my water heater and over are gas) and b) my PC is a power hungry beast.

Plus, I love my own space. |

Yeah, you just phone them up and ask for it and they stick it back in the account it was debited from.

I rarely watch tv, don't plan on having a tumble dryer, never leave stuff on standby and I'm out a lot. I do however like having lights on as I'm scared of the dark (honestly), I have my computer most of the time and I love a long shower. |

lights hardly use any power, and in a one bed flat theres maybe going to be 5 ceiling lights or something. i doubt it'll be too sky high a month. maybe 25-30 quid or something. though it depends if you get somewhere with gas central heating or electirc storage heating....
