| A Fan - makes a room warmer or worth it? As a spin off from the thread about dealing with the heat, I was having an argument today with my flatmate over the fan we have in our living room - he said we should just leave it on all day and I said that we should turn it off because it would just make the room warmer for everyone who isn't sitting directly in front of it. What's the answer? I think fans definitely make a room warmer, but maybe it's so minimal a rise in temperature that it's still worth it.

| Re: A Fan - makes a room warmer or worth it? The heat dump from a small electric motor is not enough to significantly alter the ambient temperature of a normal sized room. Plus the heat transfer to any heat sinks is related to the speed of the flow.
A fan will act to bring everything in a room to the same temperature, if you've got cold furniture and warm air without a fan you'll have cooler air and warmer furniture with a fan.

| Re: A Fan - makes a room warmer or worth it? Add to that, that the air moving over your skin will help to dissipate the bodies heat, making you feel cooler.
Of course, without some sort of ventilation, that heat will still be in the room...

Get a big steel mesh one though, these little plastic efforts are useless. If you've got the money, get one with a half-decent engine. |

| Re: A Fan - makes a room warmer or worth it? I don't see why drummers get big, fuck-off fans.
They may be playing with all four limbs but at least they get to sit down while they're doing it. |

| Re: A Fan - makes a room warmer or worth it? Mostly because they're easy to hide in all the other metalwork back there.. and no ones usually looking at the drummer anyway.
We also have the HT-800 - 8" compact turbo fan .. quite handy to slot in between your wedges..

They may be playing with all four limbs but at least they get to sit down while they're doing it. | There was a study recently which concluded that professional rock drummers in large, touring bands were fitter than premiership footballers.
Only vaguely relevant I guess, your post just reminded me of it.
