| 999 Calls Pretty funny.
But one has to wonder why, if the argument is that stupid calls tie up the line, why the operators don't just hang up on them when they realise it's an idiot.

| Re: 999 Calls They're not allowed to incase the person has dementia etc and is just confused. Tis the same with prank calls for the fire/abulance, they HAVE to send them just incase

| Re: 999 Calls I felt sorry for the old lady doing her potatoes. She's obviously some biddy that is reaching the stage of dependence on someone else and just can't see that yet.

yeah you're not allowed to hang up. I did this as a job briefly for extra shifts as I was cross trained when I did operator and directory enquiries.('s isn't half as fun as early morning wake up calls though . you end up screaming down phonelines a lot at folk who's kid have called to "put their mother on" and at folk who've dialled from their bag by mistake to hang up!
Best one when I worked there was the crazy drunk irish man who said there was a bomb in Atrium Court in the BA bit. They pretty much evacuated the whole building but the person had to keep him on the line. You have to ask them all sorts of nonsense like what size is the bomb, what's it in, and keep them on the line as long as possible. He stayed on the line so long there were sirens in the background and a policeman came on the phonebox line. |

| Re: 999 Calls I always thought you got done by the polis for wasting time if you pulled something like that? They are pretty funny, but like they say, people actually could be in danger whilst some fanny wants help with what year the internet came out.
(hint, WIKIPEDIA).
