My wee Nana has a home help that comes in three times a day to get her up and get her meals sorted - she's not being visited tomorrow because only dementia patients are the priority. I respect folks' right to strike but there's a line I think.

The strikers are just being selfish!

| Re: Local Authority & ancillary school staff industrial action - Wednesday 20th August Yeah - I have to admit it was a little indimitading this morning. The P1's have only just started and any disruption when you're trying to set a new routine can be a nightmare.

| Re: Local Authority & ancillary school staff industrial action - Wednesday 20th August Actually, that's a very good point. They're so unsettled at first this can't help them. I do hope they're not picketing primary school gates. That's just too much.

That's just too much. | There was a picketline at the main entrance to Rachels primary school at 9am this morning, they'd been there about 40 or so minutes apparently

| Re: Local Authority & ancillary school staff industrial action - Wednesday 20th August Yeah - they're away now (not suprising mind you with this rain) but there were a few of them there this morning. I guess the whole point is to cause as much disruption as possible.

#27 | | Guest | Re: Local Authority & ancillary school staff industrial action - Wednesday 20th August I have to say, I do support them because apart from anything else my salary is awarded on the same scale as the local authority employees so if they're successful I'll benefit. I tooted and waved this morning as I drove past the local high school and then had to explain cost of living, inflation and growth to a 7 year old

Al | Oh please! it's not a 1980's miner's strike. I always find this fear-based image of rabid brick throwing strikers that the British have, hilarious.
They hung about for an hour handing out fliers and drinking tea to stay warm. No yelling, no aggro, nothing like it.
I have no desire to cross a picket, as I work with these people on a daily basis and they are lovely people, who are badly underpaid and treated very poorly. My wish to not cross the picket is for personal, moral reasons, rather than dislike of their 'selfishness'.
Councils waste millions every year, give themselves bonuses and jobs for the boys - yet claim they can't pay support staff an adequate wage (many were axed in the last 2 years as well).
They have a right to make themselves heard and if you were inconvenienced then good - that was the point. If you think some minor inconvenience is more important than employee rights, fair pay and conditions, (rememebr these are real lives) then who is being selfish? |

I'm sure many people were.. but this doesnt mean they're being selfish.
If anything, it proves my point that, in putting their own agenda first before everyone esle's including the children, the strikers showed just how selfish they can be.
