| Re: Jade Goody Has Cancer I met the first girl I'd ever fancied the last time I was in there. She was doing something innocent and wholesome like taking her kids for vaccinations or some shit and I was there being tested for VD after cheating on my girlfriend.
Like having a swab stuck up my peepee wasn't bad enough. |

It was the implication that cervical cancer is a consequence of unprotected sex which I disagreed with, as, so far as I'm aware, what Vonnie said is more accurate. |

And although smear tests aren't the most pleasant thing in the world, they're not half as bad as people make out. It's just the NAME that makes them sound so disgusting. |

Apparently. | No 'apparently' about it. Many women suffer from a variety of conditions or are so nervous that the procedure can be anywhere from extremely uncomfortable to downright impossible without having to force the thing in, causing a lot of pain.

It's a documented fact, not some word-of-mouth rumour.

(Sounded clever though.)
Definitely, actually, positively. As in 'Something I know from personal experience'. Documented medical science is not going to make me require a smear test no matter how sure of itself it is. |

And what I said did relate to what you said - 'apparently' often implies doubt and guesswork as opposed to surety, which is how I read it. Let's leave this.

| Re: Jade Goody Has Cancer If something is apparent, it means that according to appearances it is perceptible. As I am never going to experience a smear test that is all that anything concerning a smear test is going to be to me.
I didn't think it was that complicated, but apparently so. Quote:

| Re: Jade Goody Has Cancer why do they call it a smear test?
cos if they called it a 'fanny scrape' nobody would go. |
