| Why do you work? After reading Dr Dolescum its got me thinking, if you work, why do you do it? Is it to get rich? Is it to simply get by? Is it because its what is expected of you? or is it so you can enjoy yourself? Following on from that, do you enjoy what you are doing? If not, why are you doing it?
I got fed up working 9-5 earlier this year as I felt that I was living for the weekend. I now work, on average, every second week and I'm loving it. It feels like I've achieved a nice work/life balance. I make enough to maintain a relaxed lifestyle and to do everything that I want to do. I do enjoy my work, its something I have a real interest in, and I am ambitious, but I don't want my work to define my life. |

| Re: Why do you work? I'd love to have that option, to be honest with you. I run into people I went to high school with, who dropped out at the end of fourth year, got into a trade and make three metric asstonnes more money than me, with hours practically when they feel like working.
I work for money, but you'd think otherwise sometimes after I've paid things off for the month and went a little overboard on my first week of the month. ;/

| Re: Why do you work? i actually genuinely enjoy my job (ignore the fact im off sick this week). I have a challenging role, great career prospects and a balance between project work and routine analysis. Plus it helps that i don't spend my working day trapped at a desk. Its an active role, physical, dirty and i love it! the free booze helps too! |

| Re: Why do you work? I work:
A) To get by in life. To eat, have a home, buy things I want to buy/do things I wanna do (where I can afford it)
B) I don't really like the idea of taking from people, as such. If I was to have to sign on, it'd be for as short a period as possibe.
C) Certainly not because I enjoy it, but because I believe it is the right thing to do when you can do it. There's nothing wrong with me at the moment preventing me from working, in a backwards kinda way, I'm pretty fortunate.
D) I like the idea of being independent. Make of that what you will, but I like the idea of being able to provide for myself.....which I suppose kinda goes hand in hand with/is about the same as B)

| Re: Why do you work? I work part time and attend University. I'm in my last year just now and the thought of working a 9-5 terrifies me. I'd feel like a total failure if I ended up working in an office or call center, I would actually prefer to work full time in The Vale than ever do that.
I have no idea what I'll do when I finish Uni. Wail.

| Re: Why do you work? I do the job I do due to the fact I don't really know what I want to do! The main reason is money at the moment. Once I have sorted out my finances, I'll be looking to move out. Apart from that, I will be looking to find a job I enjoy, whether it's something to do with Comics, Warhammer etc. I just want to be in the position where I am comfortable and I still enjoy my job. What better way of doing it by combining your living with your hobby?
In a perfect world, I'd set up my own comic or cd store. Whittle my time away listening to death metal and reading comics...good times.
[sarcasm]I'm 22 and I've done my fair share of call centre and hospitality work.[/sarcasm]
Working with Axa insurance has it's benefits, but it's a bog standard call centre at the end of the day...

| Re: Why do you work? For money, to put keep my car running and to go outand enjoy myself. I do on the odd day enjoy my job. I only work there because i have to. I would enjoy a job in a lab enviroment. Jobs in greenock are scarce, some call centres pay more but id probably be even more miserable there. I have a fairly easy job anyway.

| Re: Why do you work? To have enough money to do what I want with my spare time, I dont think I could go by just doing nothing as well as I need something to take up my time as I get easily bored.
I would rather work and have enough money to enjoy my free time than have nothing but free time and no money to do anything with it.
