| Function hire recommendation for my 18th? Basically, I'm having difficulty trying to find a venue within glasgow city centre that'll fit my criteria.
There's not a lot of places that'll let under 18's in and the whole point of me hiring somewhere out is so that my younger friends won't be left out. I will be inviting several friends from mid to late 20's as well though so I don't want anywhere too juvenile.
Preferably would like it to be smack bang in city centre to make it easier for people to get to and from, especially as the ones with ID would most likely be heading out clubbing straight after (so I would only hire it till until 12 probably).
And there'll be about 75+ people I'll be inviting - keeping in mind that not everyone will be able to make it, I guess somewhere that can fit 50 odd in will be fine.
Probably irrelevant but I'll be wanting to book the place for the 4th december, which is a thursday.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? its fairly hard to get anywhere, even outside the city where people will be allowed in with under 18's, they're a bit picky, most will ID lots of people. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out though

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? you'll probably struggle with a pub type venue with the unders but you could try hotels or restaurants. The only problem is you're gonna be deep into xmas party season so ring around soon!

Oh and we'll probs be telling the venue it's a 21st anyway cos places seem to be a bit wary of 18th's these days.
@ ladysavage: Again, yes, I know, that is why I made this thread...
And that's why I'm looking over a month in advance...

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? Aye, i reckon the types of places you'd be able to get under 18s in would be community halls, church halls, rugby clubs, etc. I doubt you'll get a bar in town to allow you to use their function suite if there's under 18s going. No way you can have a house party?
I heard about people hiring out "party flats" for one night in the city centre, no idea what age you have to be to do that but you could always get your parents to book it if you can afford stuff like that.
Don't your parents own a restaurant, can't you do it there?

What's a party flat? Is it just someone letting out their flat for like a night basically?
My family does but not my parents, it would also mean closing down for a night that could potentially bing in lots of revenue considering it's christmas season.

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? aye, we really struggled to find a place for my 18th as well (5 years ago now, urgh) - venues are really wary of 18th parties, for obvious reasons.
As previously suggested, you'll probably have better luck with community halls/hotels etc.
We ended up at the Jurys Pond Hotel, just off Gt Western Road. Not exactly a city centre location, but it's not too far away. Think we had the place til about 1am. |

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? Strawberry Fields on Oswald Street (think it's called Ivory Blacks now?) let us hire it out for an end of school party that had under-eighteens going to it, although that's going back almost ten years so may not still be the case. I'm sure they do over-14's gigs so might be worth a shot anyway. |

| Re: Function hire recommendation for my 18th? A hall or somewhere is a good idea though, although I'm not sure of anywhere that will let you have it till really late at night.
Somehwere like the CCA (not the bar bit) would be perfect by the sounds of it, but I don't know it they hire it out. Quote:

thanks for all the suggestions, guys, keep them coming. it's an absolute nightmare trying to find somewhere, especially when none of these places pick up their phones (especially byblos )

I could be wrong and it's 16 mind, I'll check, but there's a time limit by which they can't be in the place. It's not something that's the establishments choice either. Any restaurant that can sell alcohol is affected if if you want it to be later you have to apply to the council and go to liscencing court to give reasons why, much the same as you would with an alcohol late liscence
