| Re: Women in the Media - Survey i did a course on "brecht and feminist theatre"
which, even if i were an opposite person of the contradictory gender*, would be too specific to stand me in any helpful stead i expect. good luck however finding suitable wimminfolk.

It's for Sociology. If anyone has any further comments they wish to air here, all input is welcome. I'll try to get a list of general areas for some questions, but as I said, most questions will be probably be int he same vein as those included in the survey so any iput without my semi-guidlines would be great.
Thanks for the help everyone |

Don't you think that women deserve the right to work and vote, to independence and ownership, equal rights, equal pay etc?

| Re: Women in the Media - Survey I reckon that you can quite happily want all of the above without having to label yourself a feminist. For instance I prefer to label myself an equalitist. Primarily because it is a term which has yet to attract a lunatic fringe that has sullied it in the eyes of the majority. (Well sullied as in allowed the overall concept to be dismissed because a hardline minority are lacking in enough self awareness to realize they are ridiculous).
Runt: how do you square the above with comments you made in rythmn junkies thread about childcare? There seems to be an contradiction or inconsistancy there no?
As regards the survey - it's a bit simple no?
Has it been piloted down to that or was it always thus?

I'll go have a look again incase it's something else...
I don't think anyone has to 'label' themselves a feminist either but it's ludicrous for any independent women to claim she is 'far from it'.

I prefer to call myself a feminist as well as the more general terms that also apply, such as humanist, equalitist etc. because I DO feel strongly about women's rights and want to see a change for the better for women around the world, which is pretty much a universal feminist statement and nothing to be ashamed of; I also focus my attention a little more towards women's issues, in the way that others my focus more towards LGBTQI or race issues. I also feel that if we had more people who aren't afraid to consider themselves feminist, such causes might get a bit more attention. Also, it would be nice to feel I can talk about some issues without being automatically ignored by a number of my friends who automatically dismiss such things as 'feminist whinging'.

also, it's called 'feminism' and not 'equalism' because it's the same thing. To desire equality is to desire for women to have more opportunities in life, as the gender who currently have less opportunities. It's not about giving men less opportunities or rights. |
