Edinburgh Festival

Anyone been over this year? This was the first year i've bothered and it's quite a hassle if you don't live there, what with hotels, tickets selling out etc.

I was let down by the film festival.. couldn't get tickets to anything decent like the motorcycle diaries or coffee and ciggarettes, had to settle for a blade-runner-esque jap sci-fi called 'natural city' which was over-directed and generally pretty lame.

Next i wangled tickets for the one flew over the cuckoos nest stage production starring none other than Mr Christian Slater, which was of course awesome.

Next on the agenda is comedian Stewart Lee's (of Lee and Herring fame) stand up show on sunday, which should be fun. However, no substitute for leeds

What have you's seen, if anything?

I went and saw Pierre Bensusan in concert. The city is really alive. Especially with beautiful mulatto Spaniards!

Re: Edinburgh Festival

I've been hitting the comedy pretty hard this year (I live in Edinburgh, easier to actually go).
Saw some alright (for the money) thing called The Alive Four Show at Nicol Edwards ('Scotland's most haunted pub') whilst having a few pints with friends. At the start they performed a song about buckfast called 'who the fuck you lookin at?'
Before that I'd went to Sarah Kendall at The Pleasance, an Aussie comedienne who was very funny and equally good-looking. Scored free tickets to that one after my friend's boss who she's good mates with accidentally bought extras.
Saw Sven Svenson or something the next night, he's a 'showbiz agent' (not sure of the name of the comedian who plays him) and he was also pretty funny, but a very different humour. £9.50 or so, it wasn't very full but apparently was for most nights before that.

Ooh, when we were in The Pleasance we also spied Paul Merton and Jimmy Carr, then I spotted Greg Proops (who I was more excited about seeing) but none of my mates knew him, meh.

So anyway, if you do go into Edinburgh, go to The Pleasance, lots of stand-up, high chance of famous comedians and a great big beer garden in between with a few not too over-priced bars.

really wish I'd got tickets for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I wonder if I'll still be able to get one...

My friend was in that 2 years ago, it is good. One or two lines just lifted right out of Friends though.

Going to see David McSavage on Sunday.

Re: Edinburgh Festival

Not been to the festival, but fringe but went to see 'love labours win/lose-??? is that the name I've forgotten anyway a great show. It's kind of modern shakespeare - with all plays played by females.

Go see Beowulf & Beer at C Cubed in Brodie's Close or The Butler Did It at the Roman Eagle Lodge in Johnston Terrace.
