If you're interested come along. If not, don't come. I'm doing what I will. I am spinning an eddy current in what I perceive to be a sea of mediocrity in music. I'm sick of the same old past ten years. I'm trying something different. I picked a name which represents what I'm trying to engage with. If you think its shite, you probably won't like the night. Its not for you. Don't come.

I'm fairly sure it's possible to look at that flyer and think 'Hey, I like those bands, this could be a good night' and also think 'What a terrible name though!'. The two do not cancel each other out.

| Re: A Poptastic Flock of Public IMage Suicide Good luck with the club night.
I've written a 15,000 word blog post on my opinion of the name of the night, but it's far to interesting for me to share it with anyone else.

Its not for you. Don't come. | The genres mentioned on the flyer make it sound like it could be an awesome night, but the name (Is arthouse wanky kids the sort of thing your trying to attract? if thats the case it probably isn't my thing) and your attitude (with regards to the your replied here to your potential customers) make it less appealing. The names a serious mouthful, so will either be forgotten or completely ballsed up by almost everyone, and then truncated to just 'poptastic' or something anyway.
To be honest though, I don't think the name has a huge impact on who'll come. It can still be a shite name though (for other shite club night names, have a look at most of the cathouse nights...)

| Re: A Poptastic Flock of Public IMage Suicide Just to recap in all this. I post my club with no addtional information. I'm then subjected to a few posts slagging the name. At first I thought this was jovial and ignored. Tried to be humerous with a retort against Smashy and Nicey which resulted in an engagement where I took "not graceful" as being synonymous with ugly or abrasive. I was then corrected by someone as it really meant "shite". And then I have MY "attitude" questioned?
I've looked over my posts and I stand by everything I say. Though if the comments regarding the Alternative Nation forum were taken the wrong way, then I apologise.
All this because I dare to be different. Not playing by those club rules. My name is intentionally different. An alternative alternative. No one should pre-empt who I am trying to attract. I am attracting those who are attracted. If it looks interesting come along and judge for yourselves.

Though if the comments regarding the Alternative Nation forum were taken the wrong way, then I apologise. | I meant 'not graceful' in the sense of... the opposite of graceful. Another word I could have used would be 'clunky' or something along those lines. Just an honest observation in the interests of providing constructive feedback, which you are free to acknowledge or disregard as you please, and I made sure to say good luck to counter any possibility that it may come across as a little harsh. Hardly the harshest thing I've ever seen on the internets

You know how marketing is there to raise awareness of a product in the hopes that people will buy it? Or to instill certain values in a product so people will think good things about a product and buy it? Well, promotions is just another strata of marketing in the real sense, but in the sense you mean, promotions is the marketing of a club night.
I hate it when club promoters get high and mighty about marketing.
On the flip side, the night looks good, shame about the name and people here are only trying to help out. If you didn't think the people on the forum were going to be your target market, why did you post here, and since you obviously do think they're going to make up at least part of your target market, you'd do well not give your night negative connotations by acting like a dick. |
