I never said that that is what they asked for - they requested specific songs and were told 'yeh yeh' and nothing even of that theme were played. And we're not talking 9 minutes of black stuff, cos although I can't remember any specific songs off the top of my head I know it was stuff I liked, and I hate the pretentious 'look how dark we are' shit. |
Just to clear things up I never say 'yeh yeh' if I have the songs in question I normally say something along the lines of 'I'll try and fit that in at some point' and I usually do try to, apart from the other week when I was asked for a 14 minute long Opeth track.

| It was suggested *along with a disclaimer that it's not strictly a metal night*, which would make your whole series of posts moot, no? Unless you're suggesting that the Cathouse, the other not-100%-metal night which was also suggested, is somehow more metal than Absolution, in which case we might as well argue about penis size
The dude has already been informed that SIN is pyoor fuckin' metal. What's your point? |

Personally though I've heard quite a bit of metal at all the nights I mentioned but you'll always get the case of people appearing at a night having just missed 20 minutes of metal then not getting any for the time they are their then leaving just before the DJ plays some metal. I think we should perhaps put it down to an off night or something rather than all start arguing about "what's metal and what's" not, we could be here all week .

That would be a nasty, but very inventive, way of getting me back for arguing with you
Forbes - aye, maybe it was just an off night or some bad luck. I had to put up with the guilt of them having an awful night, though, so maybe I'm just associating my bad feeling towards the night with the music rather than it being actually bad. |

Oh there is plenty of Holy land in Kyoto, that's one of the main reasons for visiting, some of the most breathtaking temple in the whole country. And alot of parts of the city are less westernized than Tokyo etc.

| Re: So need to rock Well, I went up to Oyama (where my uncle lives) and to Nikko (which was BREATHTAKING) and Mt Fuji (which would have been amazing had the clouds not decided to roll in just as we were driving up it). If I have the fundage before I leave then I'll definitely check it out cos I'd quite like to see some more of Japan and not just the big city. I have been out in the sticks, too, which is a bit daunting as NOTHING is in English and I could see myself getting very very lost. |

| Re: So need to rock Did you invest in a Japan Rail Pass? It is a bit daunting when you end up in places with no signs in English, at least in most European countries you can work out things even if you can't speak the language.

Barry does his best to cater to everyone that's in but there's always going to be one or two that don't think the nights metal enough, punk enough etc. The Altnation Thursdays is probably the trickiest night for the mix to be right for everyone with only one floor cover all the genres.

I didn't think I'd be heading out of the city much so didn't see the need for a rail pass.
Now, this isn't really on topic, is it... |

I like Rabbit Junk, but it isn't metal. | He's played plenty other stuff that myself and friends have asked for regardless of what it is, not limited to "barry, punk it up eh?"
Thankfully he can take it without killing me!!!
I like the thursday night as its not as mainstream music as Saturdays. Just my opinon though, Unlike forbes I'm unbiased and happily pimp the nights for a wee change from the cathouse, where i could pretty much predict their setlist.

Next time you go get a JR Pass before you leave, it's well worth it, if you re based in Tokyo, check out Yokohama, it's only about 35-40 mins on the train.
It's not on topic, but the topic was getting a bit boring
