So need to rock

Hey folks, Last week of college for moi and i am despirate to go out for a heavy metal night once all is done to let out some steam. I Used to go up to Glasgow years back and go to the cathouse on the weekends for the unders. i'm after a decent metal pub/club to go to. Anyone like to help poor old me out. Been YEARS since i been up in glasgow for this kinna stuff and i heard the cathouse and garrage aint as heavy as they used to be. True?

There's Sin at the Soundhaus on the last Friday of every month, which is dedicated to playing nothing but metal. Both AN nights play a fair bit of it too though it's interspersed with lots of other stuff, depends on the mix of people and requests on the night. You'll probably get more metal for your money on the Saturday at the start of the night, as most of the punk stuff is moved downstairs to another floor and Barry usually plays a lot of the headbanging material early on.

Go to Campus on Sauchiehall Street, which plays stuff like Girls Aloud and Rihanna, but take your iPod and these headphones

You'll have a great night: cheap drink, brilliant music, and loads of terrified kids scattering from the bar every time you wanna get served.

Sin - Last Friday of the month - Full on Metal night, heard some good stuff about it.

Altnation - Thursdays at Bamboo - One Room mix of Metal, Rock, Industrial and Punk and another room with Soul, Funk, Hip hop Electro.

More likely to play more obscure tunes and tracks that aren't just the big crowd pleaser's also has the two DJ's (Barry and Dec) that used to DJ the cathouse unders years ago. Handy if you don't have friends that like rock as they can check out the other room

.

Absolution - Saturdays - Rock Floor and a Punk Floor again Barry (The original Cathouse DJ) and Dec. Get in early for some metal but you'll also get a fair dash through out the night along with more rock, industrial and old school punk on the top floor.

Cathouse - Thursday - Sunday - Good old dependable cathouse but you'll probably get a smattering of Hip hop and RnB at times and they tend to stick more to the main stream crowd pleaser's.

Please note I'm bias as hell cause I run the Altnation and Absolution nights.

My personal choice would be Absolution cause I love the venue it's in and the tunes but remember I'm bias

Sorry - Forbes you know I think you're awesome an' aw that, but AltNation night is not what you go for if you want metal. I took some friends who are into metal there recently cos I'd heard so many good things about it, and they had an absoutely horrible time, pretty much hated every tune and were completely fobbed off by Barry when asking for something a little harder than Metallica.

Maybe it was a one off, I dunno, but I'd check out the other nights first if that's what you're after.

I never fob people off when they ask for stuff, and I always play stuff harder than Metallica.

As I said, maybe it was a one off, and I'm only relaying what they told me. I'm not saying it's a bad night, just not a 'metal' night.

Aye, and that has nothing to do with the fact that he's known to have a bit of a soft spot for industrial/gabba/whatever...

Last time i checked "Harder than Metallica" wasnt a genre or band, maybe asking for one or the other mightve helped? Ive heard stuff "Heavier than Metallica" in Bamboo, hilariously, cause i asked for it.
Depends what folk think is "Heavier than Metallica", too. Strict metal morons want 9 minutes of non-club friendly black metal nonsense, just cause its kool, or maybe some IL NINO~! Heavy.

Umn, no, but the OP asked where to go for a metal night, and AltNation night was suggested. As I said above, I'm not saying it's a bad night, but (and I said this quite clearly in my first post) if you want a metal night check the others out first.

I never said that that is what they asked for - they requested specific songs and were told 'yeh yeh' and nothing even of that theme were played. And we're not talking 9 minutes of black stuff, cos although I can't remember any specific songs off the top of my head I know it was stuff I liked, and I hate the pretentious 'look how dark we are' shit.
