| Aye, I know, but it's the same as ANY club night:
Until we fill the not-so-good venue, they're not gonna give us the better venue, so it's all down to how much loyalty the punters have for the night itself as to how much the night can improve. |

most people dont like djing level 4, half the punters are behind the dj, seperated by a huge wall, where the seating area is stupidly dark, and the section at the bar doesnt help much either.
but steve, the whole union is generaly dead on a saturday night, cos everyones either working or broke or going out to the garage or something |

| "Going out to the Garage" shouldn;t affect MY punters though, really, should it?
We're aiming for the rock crowd, and I need to know WHY so few are coming! dV8 should be a LOT busier than it is! |

| why shouldnt going to the garage affect your punters, maybe they want a break and to go somewhere else, and not all people into rock always have to go them.

| last time i was in the garage (after new flesh a few weeks ago) there was a lot of alternative payed, ratm, some raap stuff and so on. so i dont see why 'alt.' types wouldnt want to go to the garage from time to time.

| *Sigh*
I'm not saying people should come to my nights, and nothing but.
I'm saying that if the Union's dead because everyone went to the Garage, well dV8 isn't exactly making up the majority of Union punters, is it? So it logically follows that MOST of the folk that went to the Garage instead of the Union that night are trendy types who would otherwise have been on the trendy floors of the Union. |

| remember its always hard to compete with clubs that have been there for 11 years, on their main night. new flesh isnt on the same night so isnt competing so your not getting the same problem.

| "Way up on level 8"
Ill explain that.
Vertigo isnt the ideal location for a club night in my opnion.
Its a seminar hall with a PA.
No dedicated dancefloor, and the surface is treacherously slippy. No real atmosphere - and I've been in it when its packed at freshers week.
The location *is* an issue too. The little lift anecdote - thats the problem, unless you know it there, you ain't gonna go up. It doesnt get any passing trade.
Being in the Darkroom would be better for this.
Its good music, but the venue stinks. I can accept the point the night should be supported, but I have big problems of my own meaning I can't be there as much as I'd like.
What can be done?
Seriously heavy flyering I guess.
A big event, to possibly re-launch the night could work.
For example, the SlipKnot promo night at New Flesh worked well for it?
As it stand people might see a flyer, go along, see its dead and think "meh, wont try that again".
Gah, so tired, I may be talking shit.

| Nah dude, you're talking sense - and I agree with all your points, joking aside.
You're one of the folk who HAVE been loyal to my nights, coming to venues you don't like much just to support my sets. For that I'm very grateful for that - I know that if you're going out on a night I'm DJing, you'll be there instead of at some other club that's established beyond the point of still needing all the punters it can get.
I'd be curious to see how much better the Darkroom'd fare for dV8... it's something else I gotta talk to Phil about for next year.
Ideally, I'll see how it goes on a Friday in the Darkroom... if they're up for it.
A REALLY radical idea would be for me to run two seperate fortnightly events, one every second Friday, one every second Saturday.
That'd be weird, but possibly a winner.
Thoughts? |

| Your two separate fortnightly events idea sound intriguing, but to be perfectly honest, a lot of people would be too stupid to understand the concept. Take it from me; I know a lot of students.
