AltNation Thread Tags are used for a number of things including:
- Giving an indication of thread topic, theme & content.
- Providing an extra form of navigation, searching and topic discovery.
- For background software flitering on themed and specially targetted pages.
The main Tag Cloud can be found via the ‘
Tags’ link on the main navigation bar. This page shows a list of the most commonly used tags on Alternative Nation, the largest sized being most common.
You'll also find a search box to look for less common tags.
The individual tag pages themselves show a list of threads much like a normal forum view, but filtered by tag choices. A thread can have several tags and so be found under various topics using the tags while remaining in a single forum area. So for example to view a list of all threads about kittens, go to the ‘kittens’ tag page:

Each thread has a list of the tags applied to it near the top of the page which you can click to get a list of related or similarly themed threads. And each forum display page has a list of the most commonly used tags for that particular area near the bottom of the page.

At present you'll only be able to tag threads which you yourself start. (Although Moderators can add, edit & delete tags for any thread within their range.)
To tag a thread simply enter the tags in the input box below the Thread Title area.
Tags can be of more than one word and tags should be seperated using commas. Try to choose relevant & easy to understand tags—band names, venue name and/or genre for gig threads is a good example.
Moderators will remove offensive, insulting or otherwise inappropriate tags where needed.
