| Recommend Me An Employment Agency I'm looking for some temporary employment for a while, and the forum search has been annoying unforthcoming with information about which companies with Glasgow offices are good or bad.
From the threads I managed to find apparently Mary Hodge and Office Angels are good, whereas Adecco has mixed reports.
Anyone able to make any other recommendations?
One other thing - I know beggars can't be choosers, but I really don't like call centre work - I'm not very good at dealing with people over the phone. Somewhere that would be lenient with potential placements would be good. |

HR consultancy are a mixed bag. Don't tell them you're looking for temp work as they have a mongtard of a consultant for that
Allstaff are just shite.
Adecco aren't too bad but unwilling to do anything and want you to do everything online.

| Re: Recommend Me An Employment Agency I've worked for Margaret Hodge since July 2007 and found them to be pretty good. Well, in all of this time they've never done anything that has annoyed me, they've always dealt with me in a polite but friendly manner and have always paid me what I'm owed and on time. Can't complain.
Most of the folk who have come to my work through Margaret Hodge Recruitment that have stuck aorund have gone on to become permanent members of staff as well, with the exception of myself because I can't do full-time work due to College. Even at that, though, there has been no problem from my work or the agency about being flexible to fit my studies, either. All in all, they do the trick for me nicely.
On that note, though, someone give me the real deal on these recruitment agencies... How do they work, and is there a scam in there somewhere?
I've never bothered to look into it, and no-one ever seems to go into detail, but you always hear people vaguely complaining that agency workers get a raw deal, get ripped off, etc., etc. from time to time, like as if agency work is the employment equivalent of pay-to-play gig promoters or whatever. Is there a solid ground for these rumblings or is it just people complaining about everything ever, like people tend to do? |

| Re: Recommend Me An Employment Agency I think the agency will be beeing paid by the employer for finding you, and in most cases this basically means a chunk of your potential hourly rate is going to the agency, I.E if a permanent member of staff is sitting next to you doing the same job you'll probably be getting paid less than them, they'll probably have paid holidays, and it'll be easy to sack you at the drop of a hat for no real reason because of the way your contract is worded.
All of this is fine if its short term/part time but if its your full time job its a bit shit. Best example, my last job I was agency is was paid about 13 000 a year, non agency staff doing exactly the same job but recruited slightly differently got about 18 000 - 19 000, and were given paid holidays. We also basicallly had no conrtoll over shift patterns where as non agency had loads of controll.
Hilariously, the union made a deal with the company the 80% of staff had to be non agency by a certain time scale so the company did a contract issue where the criteria for being given a non agency contract was so ridiculas that it was met by about 5% of the staff :/
Its a bit shit, but like I say if its part time or just for a few months its probably ok.
