Appraisal Rules

I am just curious as my next appraisal is soon and in the past in my current company i get shining appraisals but i was told my co-worker had one just after mines last time and she had a terrible appraisal.

She disagreed with most of the points brought up against her and in the "employee remarks" section she was going to put her remarks in about how she disagreed with some of her bad points but was told she couldnt disagree with anything and had to sign the appraisal saying she agreed with what was said.

I have told her this is incorrect that you are ment to have the right to put your views down if you disagree with what has been said.

am i wrong?

Re: Appraisal Rules

usually for all performance based job interviews, the employee is able to input their thoughts onit and how they think they are doing, what needs improving etc, they are then usually asked to sign to say they agree to this. If they are forcing her to sign it without any agreement from her, id suggest that if you have a union speaking to them, other than that keep a note of whats happened and maybe report it to HR. Sorry im not much help, im unsure how your company operates

Re: Appraisal Rules

Thats what i though, i have heard of appraisal appeals but the boss has told her she is not allowed to dispute what he has reported and that she is to agree to the comments made in the appraisal, so in my mind it would look as though she has agreed that everything he has said is true.

Shes not bad at her job, its mearly the jobs she is doing are not the best to base her performance on, hell, if i did her job i would probebly come out the same way.

Re: Appraisal Rules

The whole point of a signature is that it means "yes, i agree" (to pay you x amount; to do such-and-such a job; etc) - whoever did the appraisal was maybe getting mixed up in that in a discpilinary, you sign to say that you recognise the outcome (agree that you were, in fact, disciplined, rather than that you agree you should have been).

Employer certainly seems at fault here.

she is allowed to dispute, the boss is ill informed, if you need anything in particular fire me a PM and ill get to thinking for ya

She doesnt HAVE to sign the original appraisal, im actually unsure if they are allowed to give her a bad one without comments on imroving say her customer service, if this was an issue, The employer is in the wrong as toast said

Re: Appraisal Rules

Thanks huni,
The boss has served as manager for a LONG time so im pretty sure he knows what hes doing and its not an innocent "mistaking different procedures" i.e. disciplinary. Im going to let her know and also find some more info on appraisal proceedings, so she has something to back her up as well plus at least i know the rules now incase it ever happens.......it will never will but who knows lol!

Re: Appraisal Rules

Hes being pretty fly i think, you should maybe have a HR department/intranet website which will give you guidelines on all procedures for the company, plus any way you can appeal decisions for sick, attendance, etc issues. There should also be a hiararchy in place for these procedures and if she does appeal it the boss who done the original appraisal shouldnt be the one to deal with the appeal.

Hope thats helpful now im awake
