Re: Work available

I wonder who's leaving Rufus for them to have so many vacancies all of a sudden...

That's understandable, but I prefer when agencies/employers come right out and say that in the ad, rather than leave you in the dark. It would also benefit the companies themselves so they don't have to deal with countless calls/e-mails asking how the application is doing.

In saying that, it honestly can't be that hard - given that most agencies will add your CV to a database in case you do meet their criteria for another job - for there to be a standard e-mail sent out to all applicants saying thanks but no thanks, but we'll keep you on file (unless you're a complete numpty, obviously.)

some companies DO keep you on file (came as a shock to me too), it's how i got my job with Diageo! Glasgow council and Strathclyde police can take an age to get back to you even if they do want you for an interview! It's bloody annoying if you don't hear though

Do you have any jobs going though?

Is Rufus still looking for that matter? Didn't get my references sorted in time to apply last week.

Aye, I had calls about jobs I applied for months before - how they expect you to still be interested I have no idea. Unless you're a rich bastard who doesn't really need a job but just applies for fun.

Culture & Sport Glasgow really pissed me off this time - six weeks between closing date and response. Naturally, I didn't even get an interview, but those that did were responded to within the same time frame. Irritatingly, those that did get an interview don't seem to be the sharpest tacks in the box.

Ho hum. If they do turn out to be useless then maybe they'll get binned and I can apply again.

if you are wanting to work for the council/police in some capacity it may pay to go through temping work with an agency (much as it pains me to say so). Universal staff services above house of frasers has lots of council and contracts and Kelly services (spawn of Satan) do work for them too. Quite often the temps get first dibs on the perm jobs and even if you're in a different sector you can peruse the internal jobs (and at least if you do this you're earning and not resting on you laurels)
