| Work available Every so often someone mentions that their work are looking for staff, and from my extensive (current) experience, sites like s1jobs etc. aren't particularly helpful as many places just advertise on their own sites/in-house.
Thought it would be handy to have just one thread to keep them all in, and maybe sticky it so as to encourage more folk to mention job openings?
Certainly, most of the jobs I've applied for recently have been as a result of someone mentioning the vacancy to me, rather than finding it on a recruitment site or in the paper.
Of course, I suspect most folk wouldn't want to work with other forumers, but perhaps those who work for large organisations and thus have less chance of working directly with them wouldn't mind. Or, indeed, those that are leaving their current jobs and know that a position might be coming up (if they can talk about it that is.)
(I know I could sticky it myself, but this may actually be a shit idea so I shan't do it yet)

Although in defence of S1jobs, bad as it may be for certain things, its a lot better then the equivalent thing they have in Manchester... (Which is truly appalling.) |

It's the best of a bad bunch though, the other Scottish/Glasgow job sites are horrifyingly bad. |

| Re: Work available So, would you advise against S1jobs then? I've just been quoted a grand for the package. Is it not well used?

| Re: Work available I think the grand would possibly be better spent improving the NHS scotland jobs website.
Even if that grand entailed hiring someone to nick the NHS England and Wales job site which is immeasurably better.
That or advertising the website better. |

| Re: Work available It is highly used, but depending on what you're advertising, potential candidates may have to sift through hundreds of badly written adverts for "sales executives" or "collections advisors" to get to your advert.
My advice would be to title your ad informatively, put as much detail in as possible but remain very clear about your requirements. The pitfall of s1jobs, from an advertiser's point of view, is that if you're not absolutely clear about the type of person you need, you may have to sift through literally hundreds of applications that may not fit even your most basic criteria.
A thousand pounds sounds like a bit much for the amount of exposure you get, since I presume you have a limited number of categories you can place your ad in, meaning you ad may not be shown if you can't predict the exact search terms your potential candidates may use. |
