| Signing on I'm now a jobseeker and would like to make it official. Can I sign on any day of the week or is there a specific day? Do I need a P45? Just finished last week so don't have one yet...

| Re: Signing on You have to apply and be fucked around for a couple of months before you can sign on or get any money.
That's not what is meant to happen of course, but I've never heard of anyone having a trouble free time from JSA people.
I've been working for 2 months now and they still won't leave me alone.
Phone the "help"line and they should set you up with all the info and details.

| Re: Signing on Your signing day is dictated by which day you start claiming from...if you start claiming on a Thursday/Friday, you'll sign on on a Thursday/Friday, and your Giro will be later thanks to the weekend (and any Bank Holidays). And don't expect any help off them, they're far too busy to help you look for a job as most of the Jobcentres have cut their staff over the past few years, only to regret the decision once this recession/credit crunch started.
You'll also get a wee grey book to hand over when you sign on; you have to have at least 3 entries over the fortnight (looked in the papers, looked on the internet, asked friends and family, applied for jobs, etc), describing what you did to look for a job. Fuck it up (or even worse, forget it), and they'll strike you off.
Also, any queries (and I mean any) will result in you being issued with a wee card with the phone-numbers of more competent jobcentres. Usually Coatbridge or Dundee. |

| Re: Signing on gutted for ya, was doing it for 6 months, absolutely soul destroying and degrading,
but aye like she sais, just fone up and they will sort the rest for you.
I was one of the lucky few who was getting my money only weeks after signing on, just depends on how busy they are at the time i suppose.
anyways good luck with the job hunt Quote:

| Re: Signing on http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/...15272.xml.html
That page should help just phone the number on there and they'll take some details from you then usually call you back to sign you up. When they call back the 2nd time they'll want details of previous job, income, bank accounts etc but they'll tell you what you need when you speak to them. You'll then get to go sign up at your local jobcentre office and they'll give you a signing day, the horrible wee grey book as previously mentioned and you agree what kind of jobs you are looking for and what kind of salary you are wanting.
Good luck with the jobhunt. |

Sign on,
With hope in your heart,
'cos you'll never get a job.
You'll never get a job.
Ahem. I had no trouble with them, for the few months I was signing on, completely hassle free, and just pointed out the numerous job fairs I'd been to if they asked what I'd been doing to find work. Got a job before they started applying any sort of pressure on me.
This was in 2003 though, so your mileage may vary. |

But that was somewhat below the average I believe.
