I don't know if you've ever worked in an office, but it's rife.

I don't know if you've ever worked in an office, but it's rife. | I'm not saying its not there or not being used in formal contexts. Just that it might just be used because its a colloquialism thats been co-opted into professional correspondance. Rather then a concious attempt to seem more professional.
It will probably become the norm much in the same way less people are saying fewer... (or is that vice versa?) See also misuse of brilliant, awesome and such, well not misuse more change of use I suppose.

In business situations the fact people trust the Scottish accent might play a big part in that? That and folk from the North and Scotland move south a lot also.
Also most areas have their own versions of "yourself" or "myself" to distinguish between formal and informal situations. Some of these will likely be far removed from "yourself" or "myself" but people in a formal setting, being informal, will probably still use "yourself" or "myself" because they likely have to communicate with people outside their local area.

It's things such as "Can you send that e-mail to myself?" and "I recieved this correspondence from yourself..."

i think it's sort of connected with cases - although we don't really have them in english any more, they were once there and they affected how english came to be how it is.
"speaking for myself, i think swans are tasty" is okay because the person speaking is the subject of the sentence.
"send the swans to myself" isn't because the swans are the subject. in sentences where the person speaking is the object (direct or indirect), "me" sounds better (= is correct )
that's part of the explanation i reckon. but if we just bludgeon everyone who does it, eventually the practice will die out.

| Re: Myself Yourself I think it's a result of the current paradigm of fear of offending people. Saying "This belongs to you" or "send to me" is too decisive, I reckon. It's like, there's no doubt at all who the subject is, and in some contexts this could be slightly confrontational. "This belongs to you" especially could be seen as slightly aggressive to some. The reasoning people don't use these words, I've noticed this from work and my own social interactions, is fear to offend or appear confrontational even if the subject being discussed is something inoffensive.
Yourself and myself sounds less definitive.

Yourself and myself sounds less definitive. | Yeah, I agree with that. "Myself" or "Yourself" can sound more objective or distanced.
