| Re: What made you smile today? v3.0 The Mikiphone. It's a POCKET-SIZED PHONOGRAPH. People invented this in the 20s when lead in water was as healthy as Hitler was harmless*. *This phrase is still true today, with exactly the opposite meaning. |

| Re: What made you smile today? v3.0 When I was in Primary 1, and Primary 2 as it was a joined-up class, I had a teacher by the name of Mrs Hammond.
Mrs Hammond was traditionally the Primary 7 teacher, but for some reason, was shunted down to teach a hurricane of dribbling noses, cut knees and sand. Mrs Hammond was not amused. We once made a maze out of building blocks, hoping she would get lost within the maze and we would be free; although from what, we were not sure. Mrs Hammond was not amused
This classroom had toys, and required the type of cleaning that she couldn't get her monosyllabic class to do. It did not have any form of meaningful conversation, and was isolated from the rest of the school at the end of a long corridor, save for the nursery. Her previous classroom was also isolated, up the stairs, away from the ankle biters. I'm sure that her prior isolation didn't bother her at all, but now it proved a problem.
This all came to a climax when the learning assistant for the class took the toy house, and transformed it into a glorious cafe. In our heads it sold juice, and cakes, and all the staff wore aprons, even though we only had on apron in the classroom, to be worn regardless of gender roles.
It also had a large sign above the doorway that read 'Hammy's Cafe'.
Mrs Hammond was not amused, and demanded that it be taken down. However, in our heads, it was already known as 'Hammy's Cafe', and would not change easily. Mrs Hammond was not amused.
That was 20 years ago, give or take a few months, and Mrs Hammond is surely retired, although I do remember hearing that she became headmistress of the school, after her predecessor had an affair with Mr King, the Music Teacher for the area, and they ran off together.
I would like to think that upon retirement, Mrs Hammond felt a burden lift from her shoulders, and that, looking for something to do, she opened a cafe that sold juice, and cakes, and teenagers that she employed before they went off to University and other such things, all wore aprons, regardless of gender roles.
I would like to believe that there's a sign above the doorway, that reads 'Hammy's Cafe'.
This thought made me smile today.
