| [science] Dear science types of the forum see when you stick a bottle of vodka in the freezer, is the liquid that isnt frozen in the bottle the alcohol, and the frozen stuff is water? and if so, does removing the non frozen stuff and drinking it by itself the equivalent of drinking the entire thing?

| Re: [science] Dear science types of the forum I've never seen a bottle of vodka freeze up. I guess it would have to be stuff that's low in alcohol, like a vodka blend or some really cheap shitty stuff or something if it's actually frozen and separated.
Wait... Quote:
Due to the low freezing point of alcohol, vodka can be stored in ice or a freezer without any crystallization of water. In countries where alcohol levels are generally low (the USA for example, due to alcohol taxes varying with alcohol content), individuals sometimes increase the alcohol percentage by a form of freeze distillation.
If the alcohol level is low enough and the freezer cold enough (significantly below the freezing point of water), solid crystals will form which are mostly water (actually a dilute solution of alcohol). If these "ice" crystals are removed, the remaining vodka will be enriched in alcohol.

Wait... | If by 'enriched in alcohol' you mean 'It'll freeze everything the raw ethanoic alcohol' then bang on.
Raw Ethanoic alcohol will kill you, incidentally. |

Raw Ethanoic alcohol will kill you, incidentally. | The LD50 of ethanol is the same regardless of whether it's in solution in a drink or 'pure'. It'd be easier to get to that dose drinking it raw than drinking beer though, aye. But I doubt anyone could drink that much pure ethanol. It's vicious.

| Re: [science] Dear science types of the forum We used to steal jugs of it out of the school chemistry lab and dump half a bottle of Kiora in it. Many nights of visions and days of sickness from that stuff.
Its a wonder I'm not blind. |
