I always smile at folk - London is the worst for people looking at you like you're a maniac for being friendly.

Oddly, people always smile at you in work, like they know your purpose so it's ok for them to smile back.

I think some older people look at me in work when they're walking in or out and expect me to smile when I catch their eye, then get disappointed when I don't.

I do tend to smile at folk, but they often walk out their way to avoid me, as I am a dodgy looking bastard.

I always say hello to people or smile when I see them about in my home town, not so much in Glasgow as there is too many people to smile at without looking like a loony.
