| Smiling at people in the street. I always do this, just about everyone looks at me like I'm a lunatic.
(Though very occasionally you'll get a wee old woman saying thank you and complaining that people never smile and greet each other in the street any more.) |

| Re: Smiling at people in the street. Smiling is fine, I do that if I'm in a good mood. Feels good.
Being yelled at to 'GIVE US A SMILE, LOVE' by complete strangers in cars/across the road/RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO YOU who you haven't even noticed because you were minding your own business is really, really annoying. If they add 'IT'S NOT ALL THAT BAD' because they seemingly know just how your day's been going, that gets them extra self-important prat points. |

| Re: Smiling at people in the street. See, this is a total pro about living in Helensburgh - wee old people saying hello when you are out running your errands in the morning! I like to banter to people that are in awkward situations, like one guy that was dragging a huge sack of cut grass up a hill, i nodded and said 'poor you, onto plums eh?' - and he stopped and had a wee chuckle to himself!

| Re: Smiling at people in the street. Old people always smile back (of course sometimes this backfires - like today when I smiled at an old lady at the bus stop and then she sat next me and chatted for a half hour.) Actually, it wasn't that bad I do have a tendancy to smile at anyone whose eye I catch (I blame my job) and it can get a bit weird - Mums with little kids tend to give right suspicious looks.

| Re: Smiling at people in the street. If I catch someone's eye in the street, I spend a few mins sussing them out before deciding whether or not to smile.
Maybe Mark's just got a strange smile.
