i don't think anyone has said that DIY is the right / only way or that every other way is wrong. a lot of people, like myself, like bands that are DIY as well as a lot of bands that aren't. i'll buy music if i like it but i choose to take part in the DIY commnity and my band are what i would call a DIY band. the opinions of people such as poprock really, for me, sum up a lot of people perceptions of the DIY communtiy, like we look down on other music lovers and consider ourselves cooler because we think ourselves "more independent" and a load of crap along those lines. people forget that many DIY bands make great, challenging and involving music that you just don't hear anywhere else, wether people who listen to this music choose to become involved in the communtiy is their descision but whats important is that these bands / musicians put a massive amount of effort and passion into writing and performing as equally as they do in offering listeners another way besides the mainstream corporate way. all this may change for each individual as time goes on, i can easly see how people may become jaded over time, but that isn't really the issue if the present intentions are good. but thats all just my opinion |
