I think the point Vicki/Vicky (sorry, I've completely forgotten which way you spell your name) is making is that they want to lose weight to get into a range that's healthy for them.

Given your height, 7st isn't really a natural or healthy weight to be at.

Saying that, to be fair, it's your body and it's upto you what you do with/to it.

For me, I would feel sick if I ever got to a weight that low, and I'm only 5"3, I think?

Re: The all-new, all-singing, all-dancing two stone for whenever thread.

I must say Christie it's a little worrying. I'm 5'7"/8" and my weight fluctuates between 8st and 8st6, by BMI standards I'm a little underweight but it's not affected my health. However it IS my natural weight, taking less than the recommended amount of exercise and a reasonably healthy diet and not doing anything to affect my weight. I said before, I'd have to reverse my body back to its 12-year-old state or exercise so much that I burn muscle in order to go to 7st - my body is not naturally like that, and I'd have to lead a really unhealthy lifestyle in order to maintain such a weight.
You're currently a little lighter than my sister who is around my height and she looks pretty good - size 12 is not fat by any stretch of the imagination at our heights, both you and her look perfectly healthy and are a perfectly normal weight for your age and height. Also take into account the fact that the adult female body in particular needs fat to function - a lot of hormones such as those that control the menstrual cycle won't be produced below a certain fat level. That's one reason why we have all those jiggly bits. I'm not saying you couldn't lose some weight and stay healthy, but the amount you proposed is not good. Like bikuki said, the BMI is more useful for extremes of weights - you can be 'borderline' and be healthy, like me, but a BMI of 15 is far more likely to be indicative of ill-health. If you really want to lose weight, I'd reckon you could be possibly around eight-and-a-half stone without worrying especially seeing as you're a bit shorter than me, but a drop of three stone is not a good idea if you aren't naturally a 7 stone pixie. You're not overweight, so while I'd advocate leading a healthy lifestyle to anyone (and not worry about any ensuing weight loss too much), actively working to be quite noticeably underweight is different.

Also, 'so long as you can be a size 8' - why are you trying to fit the clothes rather than the other way around? I never understood this tick-the-boxes mentality. As if size 10 is massive or something. The average woman in the UK is a size 16. By that measure, size 12 is smallish, 10 is skinny, and 8 is about the lowest it goes without having to really hunt for clothes.

So you wouldn't buy something if it was size 12 or above, on some sort of principal?

Yep, it's a sort of stupid rule amongst my mates. If there's no choice because it's rly stunning and the smallest size available is 12, we'll just cut the labels off as if in denial or so we won't feel so fat hahaha

Nope, root through my wardrobes and everything in it is either size 8 or size 10, anything with the label cut off is a size 12. All the girls I know around my age do it as well...

You're the first girl I've ever heard of personally who (admits that she) does this. And I'm only a year older than you. And everyone's doing it? That's... really baffling. Makes me slightly uneasy.

Re: The all-new, all-singing, all-dancing two stone for whenever thread.

Can I just ask, why?

Size 12 is by no means "fat". Given that as Helen said, the average size of UK women is a 16, size 12 is positively tiny.

Plus, different shops size differently, and a size 12 in one shop might be a size 8 in another.

Well, not everyone obviously, but it's the norm amonsgt me and my mates....it definitely makes you feel better about yourself as well when you cut all the labels off so you forget which one's a size 12 haha

also, average size? hello, have you been outside lately?! everyone's getting fatter!

yeah, i know, that's another reason to cut off the labels cos you know you're not actually a size 12 even if the clothes do say so.

It has been for a while, it's lower for younger people, and most of the women I know are size 12-14 and very few of them look fat.

A size cannot be "fat". A size 12 would look very different on people with different body structures and heights. It is by no means a standard fat size. I just think it's horrifically ignorant to regard anyone a size 12 or above as fat.

My wardrobe ranges from size 8-12, depending on where I bought the clothes. Personally if I found something I liked in a size 14 and I could get away with wearing it, I would. Who actually cares what it says inside a label?

Re: The all-new, all-singing, all-dancing two stone for whenever thread.

I have clothes ranging from 8 to 14, and look at my weight! I don't give a shit about clothing size other than a vague judge of my weight change/stability - noone sees the sizes so who cares?
I'm really fighting the urge to be very very insulting here, but I think you (and your mates by the sounds of it) have some serious issues with body image.
