| Re: Get in shape 2009! Well since arsehole here volunteered to return to the desert I find myself once again on a forced 4-month sabbatical from my regular booze, which can of course only be good for me. Plus it means a little bit of time in the gym and a 12km run every day, though I quite simply refuse to alter my diet.

It could (according to some theories) be less to do with the amount of meat and more to do with bizarre-to-the-body things like trans-fats, a lack of fresher produce in our diet and a more sedentary lifestyle which is making us unwell. Eating McDonalds and lounging about = bad, but eating a minimally-processed cow a day + getting outside = good stuff.
*Edit: They get lots of exercise, and their arteries have been found to enlarge to compensate for fatty build-up so they stay healthy.

| Re: Get in shape 2009! I participated in a study about 6 months ago as part of a Glasgow Uni post-grad's PhD project. She was looking for overweight women from 18-45, who were looking to improve their cardiovascular fitness. I found it really helpful in getting me into a fitness routine - if I was having one of those 'I can't be bothered' days, I was usually able to talk myself into going to the gym by telling myself I would ruin someone's PhD if I didn't.
I found it really interesting, and not only came away with an improved fitness level, but also a breakdown of my diet; where I was deficient, what I was getting enough of, recommendations for fixing where i was off course.
I just heard from the PhD student, and she's still looking for subjects. If anyone is interested, PM me, and I'll pass along her contact info. She can give you all the details then. The study would probably suit a student/someone with flexible working hours best, as you do have to spend some time on campus. |

If you're looking to rely on stand up then amatuer MMA is not a good idea, semi-pro would be far better (assuming you're using standard UK amatuer rules).

| Re: Get in shape 2009! Currently eating a bowl of home made greens and lentil soup. Having veg stir-fry for dinner. Annoyingly, I've put on 1.5 lb since the last weigh in, but will hopefully start shifting soon now that I can focus on eating less. For the first week I was too preoccupied with the junk food and constant booze withdrawl to care.

| Re: Get in shape 2009! I'm making a proper effort to get back to the gym and get into a fitness routine again. At the start of 2008 I was in a pretty good routine but it pretty much died towards the end of the year.
As and when I can afford to eat I'll sort out my diet, but for the rest of this month it's whatever I can clobber together from the cupboard and freezer

| Re: Get in shape 2009! I walk 3 miles per day at the moment just doing the school run, I've cut down on my junk food, try and make as much meals as possible from scratch and buy pure fruit juice for me and kiddo instead of coke.
My main weakness is beer, I do jog alot, cycle and walk but i just dont want to give up the booze!

| Re: Get in shape 2009! I'm beyond caring about my health for this month. I'm too busy, it's too miserable outside, I'm too poor and also I have so many left over chocolate/party food kicking about that it'll need to get cleared first. |

| Re: Get in shape 2009! I'm back on track after the broken toe/lazy bastarditis of November/December. Was at gym today for a new programme, swimming twice a week, gym 3 times and a run on Saturday's. I done the half marathon last year, so want to attempt it again this year.
Healthy diet from now on and no booze unless it's a birthday, wedding, etc for a couple of months too. |

Will find out wednesday. Train at Wossobama in Ayr with Andy Wilson, Mondays, Wednesday. And when i'm free a Saturday and Sunday, also Train on thursday with Andy Callaghan.
Don't know who i am fighting, think i was ment to find out today but was working so couldn't make training.
Think a weights, cardio, swim and sauna session is on the cards tommorw.
