Plays/Playwrights

Ok I haven't gotten around to reading any science fiction, what with exams but I am also interested in plays and I have always wanted to write one but I want to read a lot more before i give it a go. Anyway know any good/interesting playwrights? All I am really familar with is Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams and of course Shakespeare. Any suggestions?

Dip into some Christopher Marlowe if you enjoyed Shakespeare. I'd also recommend the Ancient Greeks such as Sophocles and Euripides. And I second Tony Krusher's Angels in America.

If you want sidesplitting laughter and life-affirming levity you can't go wrong with a bit of Samuel Beckett.

It's not that hard to understand. Everything's pointless and we're all slowly dying and things are only going to get more shit, until you die and then there's nothing at all.
