Re: Fifty book challenge 2008

Should read it, it's pretty good. Wont take long neither. Notice how the length of time it takes to get through a book determines how much I like it? Sick of War & Peace.

Re: Fifty book challenge 2008

Not in order! These are ones i have definitely read since New Years.

1. Wicked - Gregory Maguire (very good, dark, and not at all musical like surprisingly)
2. Freud's Alphabet - Jonathan Tel
3. Islam, A Short History - Karen Armstrong
4. A wedding in December - Anita Shreve
5. Light on Snow - Anita Shreve
6. Swallowing Grandma - Kate Long
7. Queen Mum - Kate Long
8. Start from Here - Sean French
9. Venus as a Boy - Luke Sutherland
10. The Piano - Jane Campion
11. The Wind Singer - William Nicholson
12. Slaves of the Mastery - William Nicholson
13. The Wind on Fire - William Nicholson
14. Imagined London - Anna Quindlen
15. Love Story - Erich Segal
16. Wintering - Kate Moses (Sem fiction on the last moths of Silvia Plath's life, excellent book)
17. The Self Preservation Society - Kate Harrison
18. The Realm of Shells - Sonia Overall
19. Human Punk - John King
20. Everyday life in the Viking Age - Jacqueline Simpson
21. The Developing Child - Helen Bee
22. A Teachers' Guide to the Psychology of Learning - Michael J.A. Howe
23. Literacy and Language in the Primary Years - Wray and Medwell
24. The Study of Language - George Yule
25. Six Religions int the Twentieth Century - W. Owen Cole
26. Child Development and Teaching Pupils with Special Educational Needs - Tilstone and Layton
27. Drama in the Curriculum - Jon Somers
28. Joan Bakewell - The Centre of the Bed
29. Labrynthe - Kate Mosse
30. Innocence -Kathleen Tessaro
31. A Bit of Crack and Car Culture - Bess Ross
32 The Red Door : the Complete English Stories(1949-76) -,Iain Crichton Smith.
33. The Brown Owls Guide to Life -Kate Harrison

34. The Last Days of Dogtown - Anita Diamant

This story is really interesting. Part bases in fact, and part based in folklore, it tells the story of a small, failing rural community in 19th century New England. Its discussion and description of the changing and developing of relatioships is wonderful.

35. Pitching my Tent - Anita Diamant

Extracts from all aspects of the life of the author, collating various articles written for newspapers on topical subject. An insight into the blending of two cultures(Christian and Jewish primarily.)

36. Buddha Da - Anne Donovan

Fantastic! tells the story of a Glaswegians man's quest for spirituality(Buddhism), through the eyes of his teenage daughter. Witty, clever, and in some parts heart wrenching. Everyone should read it!

37. Ant Egg Soup - Natacha du Pont de Bie

an account of one girls travels as a food tourist in Laos, Honest, funny and well written, and containing some very interesting recipes.

38. How i paid for College - Marc Acito

Story of a teenage, theatre loving boys plans to get the money to pay for his college tuition- Theft, fraud, and a healthy does of teenage angst, along with some singing.

39. Love, Etc. - Julian Barnes

THe best part of this book is the varying perspectives it gives. Its like secretly being told a story from everyones point of view.

40. For One More Day - Mitch Albom

I loved The 5 People You Meet in Heaven, and Tuesdays with Morrie, so i expected to enjoy this book. It's brilliant, but its a hard read, as it deals with aspects of death so bluntly. This is the first time in a while i've had to leave a book and go back to it, but i'm glad i did.
