Sorry! Didn't even realise that was what you were doing! The point is to try and read fifty books by the end of the year - I think most folk would be hard pushed to manage that in less than three months

(I probably shouldn't get involved here... since finishing my literature degree I've probably only managed to read ten or fifteen books, despite being ecstatic about being free to choose my reading material again )

House of Leaves (Mark Danielewski)


Phenomenal book. Difficult at times, and hugely complex, but it's such an astounding book that it deserves a mention outwith any list.

Really enjoyed this, although it's very confusing in places and just as brutal as the other two of his books that I've read. It's also kinda strange to think that the author's a man, as his first-person female narrative is so convincing.
