Pretty dissapointing to be honest, I love some of his poems but this wasn't great at all. He spends so much time obsessing over a few events, and he takes so long to fully explain stories, whats the point? To keep you reading obviously, but you shouldn't need to do that, people should keep reading because the books great not because it beats about the bush for 190 pages.
6. Jean Baudrillard - The Spirit of Terrorism or A Requiem for the Twin Towers
I read this last year too but had to re-read it for a presentation I was doing. It's pretty good.

7. AL Kennedy - Night Geometry and the Garscadden Trains
A couple of really decent short stories in it, some not so good ones, her descriptive style is really great in places. And shes from Glasgow eh.

Cheers for the recommendation, I picked it up from the library today. Halfway through and loving it, can't believe it was written as early as 1948!

1. Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness
2. D. H. Lawrence - The Rainbow
3. Evelyn Waugh - A Handful of Dust
4. James Joyce - A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Some really amazing bits, but overall not my cup of tea at all.

1. Neal Stephenson - Cryptonomicon
2. Neal Stephenson - The Diamond Age
3. Joe Abercrombie - The Blade Itself (The First Law: Book One)
4. Richard Morgan - Altered Carbon
5. Terry Pratchett - The Light Fantastic
6. China Miéville - The Iron Council
7. Ian Irvine - The Curse on the Chosen (Book Two of the Song of the Tears trilogy, part of the Three Worlds Cycle)
8. Richard Dawkins - Unweaving the Rainbow

A brilliant book. Dawkins has such an amazing ability to explain even very complicated topics in clear and concise manner.

Yeah, there's a few lines from The Waste Land quoted at the beginning.

1. Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness
2. D. H. Lawrence - The Rainbow
3. Evelyn Waugh - A Handful of Dust
4. James Joyce - A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
5. Evelyn Waugh - The Loved One

Cracking, there's such a surreal, black humour to it.

1. H. G. Wells - The Invisible Man
2. Arthur Machen - The Three Imposters
3. Tom Robbins - Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
4. Henry Miller - Tropic of Cancer
5. Henry Miller - Tropic Of Capricorn
6. Henry Miller - The Colossus Of Marossui

I was really taken by his ability with language, particulary in Tropic Of Capricorn. I don't think i've read anything quite like it, definetely worth more than a single glance.

Yep, I liked it but I know other folk who've really hated it. Well worth a read anyway if you like satire.

Have you read Miller's Black Spring, its fucking great. Pretty much just total stream of conciousness stand alone chapters. Theres an amazing one where he paints a picture of a horse, and another one about him pissing in the street in Paris as he ruminates about the great men of literature.
