Starting tonight (27th feb) at 7:30pm, and running til Saturday 1st March, you can attend the tale of Sweeney Todd in its full un-cut
gory glory.
It's the same story and the same music as the film, but the film was cut to pander to the shortened attention span of the modern American; in the theatre you get the full bhuna. It makes a few things clearer and a few things more poignant.
The best reason to see it live is probably the music. It's very complex with lots of themes weaving in and out, and can be pretty hard to follow, and being in the presence of an orchestra and singers really helps unfold the complexity in a way that hearing it on CD or in a cinema can't rival - far greater extremes of subtlety, and power, and emotion.
You'll be able to get tickets at the theatre but it's slightly cheaper to arrange them in advance. From the company's website:

Please send an email to cecilian.tickets@gmail.com and we will be in touch.
Tickets are £10 and £7 for concessions when bought in advance. Tickets are available to be be bought on the night, but the prices will raise to £12 and £9.

If you're in the mood for bloody violence and murderous revenge, or just if you've ever wondered how good I am on xylophone, come along!
The Mitchell Theatre is immediately behind the Mitchell Library, by the way.
