am i the only who who thought chuck's Rant was his worst novel yet? Not including Non-Fiction.

Probably. Rant was pretty great, I reckon. Choke and Haunted really pushed him over the edge for me, as far as being sick of his same tired nihilistic prose.

A fair bit of the stuff he's writting now veers more into "horror" territory.

Makes me worry he's gonna metamorphose into the "new Stephen King" any day now...

Child of God by Cormac McCarthy

An interesting if way too brief tale of the story of a young Tennesee backwoodsman, released from prison all to early who then embarks on a total degradation trip throughout the countryside.

Went pretty slow at first but McCarthy's almost poetic writing style makes it beautiful reading.

I read them a couple of years ago and can't remember them in great detail, so forgive my vagueness.

Basically I had just read Fight Club and Survivor and loved them both, but then read Lullaby and Diary but realised they were in the exact same style but I personally didn't like them as much.

lots his characters have really similar elements and bore me,
quite liked lots of the stories in haunted, but not the inbetween chapters.

Being fair, his writing career was born off the back of a movie.

I quite liked Survivor and Invisible Monsters, but he's just not a good enough writer to hold my attention for any length of time.

I also didn't know he still wrote books, or that anyone still bought them, so I'm obviously out of touch with the trend.

I think he moved beyond being hep and into the hardcore fanbase stage a wee while back. His hardcore fanbase is vast though.
