| Re: What Did You Just Finish? Not that surprising, people could be reading better authors but I suppose I should take succor in the that they're still reading at all. Choke, that was the other one I read. |

I get the feeling I'm in the (extreme) minority here, but I like 'Non-Fiction' more than any of his novels. I am a magazine junkie though.

| Re: What Did You Just Finish? Children of the Revolution by Dinaw Mengestu
The tale of a young man who flees Ethiopia during a coup and starts a new life in America. In many ways it paralleled The Great Gatsby because it held up the ideals of the American Dream before undermining them and demonstrating how they cannot be attained by everyone within society.
I still can't decide whether or not I liked it. I did find it interesting but at the end I was left somewhat unfulfilled.

| Re: What Did You Just Finish? I'm gonna dig out my copy of Fight Club again. Love that book, nasty hateful little screed that unfolds into a quite touching story of love between the mentally ill. |

| Re: What Did You Just Finish? Just finished Consumed by Benjamin Barker - really interesting polemic on consumerism and the ills that it is bringing about for the west and capitalism. Anyone else read it?

Brutal. Great wee story with important social message. Talking animals too! Just like Family Guy. 5/5.

Really good recommendation, this way. Tale of yerboy going through rehab, but rejecting the A.A and higher power and all that. Taking charge of his recovery through conscious decision and reasoning. It's really good, even with the love story element. Aye, splendid. 6 out of 8.

I just finished The Host by Stephanie Meyer. Pretty good, it's the first adult book by the author of the Twilight series. A book about the human species being used as hosts for a race of pacifist parasites, in particular one human who manages to fight back until both her and the parasite are both living in the body. Took a while to get into, enjoyable.
8/10

aw naw. | Family Guy is more important to culture than Animal Farm. And 1984 for that matter.

Family Guy is more important to CURRENT POP culture than Animal Farm.
In broad cultural terms, Family Guy has yet to have a major impact on literature, films, art and so on.
Speaking of silliness, I just finished reading Russell brand's 'My Booky Wook'. I have always disliked the guy but actually really enjoyed the book. A very funny, light read, and in that category it gets 4/5 from me. |
