I bought "On The Road" and read one chapter and still haven't felt like picking it up again...

| Re: Most challenging read? It's been mentioned already, but I've tried to read Mrs Dalloway about six times and I just can't do it. The likes of War and Peace are incredibly long and slow paced, but the story itself is quite easy to follow. Mrs Dalloway on the other hand is just like reading something in a foreign language. It's a bit like this, but it goes on for 200+ pages -
"Peter, yes that was the fellow, standing next to the window in the sunshine - oh what a day - with the yellow wallet lying on the couch; he was still over in India and he hadn't written in weeks. Weeks, that was the name of the maid's aunt; frightfully thin lady, took in the sights of Paris in three hours flat she said, I lost track of her after the christmas row at Pinkerton's, I really must take this dress to the dry cleaners."

| Re: Most challenging read? I found Catch 22 really hard going. I've chalked part of that down to being 15 or 16 at the time, but then a lot of folk I know said they read it at that age and it totally clicked. I figure I must've missed something, should I go back to it?
Also, 'challenging' may not be the correct word, but anything by Walter fucking Scott is an absolute chore to get through.

I loved LotRs though, I was very sad when I got to the end; I wanted it to keep going.
